Yoko has always been a little louder than most kids. She’s very unreserved and knows how to speak her mind. Sometimes she might come off as a little rude, but honestly, she’s just a little dense. She’s not completely oblivious of peoples’ emotions, but she does have a skewed concept of what would and wouldn’t offend someone. Even with her tactless mentality, it’s a little hard to dislike her. Yoko is a natural born leader. While her honesty and communication is a little bit questionable (she’s a little…too honest), maybe problematic, it’s these traits that make her such a great leader. On top of that she’s fearless and ready to take the bullet. While Yoko is very neighborly, she’s a little too nosy, and she’s ready to get caught up in someone’s personal drama. Not out of any ill-intentions, of course. Yoko’s very childish and boyish at best, and some may simply substitute her nosiness for abundant curiosity. In the end, Yoko’s just a strange girl. She's friendly and outgoing, but she's still at the pliable and impressionable age of 15, and fluctuates between her adapted city persona of trying to be cool and reverting to the island girl living inside of her. She has yet to find a happy medium between the two, but perhaps in the future she will.

Biography:

[tl;dr Yoko's father pursued a job off-island and her family followed. He was soon corrupted by the city life and was caught unfaithful, and Yoko and her mother returned to the island after her middle school graduation.]

  The Hanawa family had been living in Momokajima for generations, and Yoko’s family was no different. Just like her parents, grandparents, and ancestors, Yoko was born and raised on the peach abundant island as an only child. Fortunately, her status as the sole daughter of the new Hanawageneration didn’t corrupt her into an overindulgent child and she grew up friendly and extroverted. Yoko was eager to make as many friends as she could and often found herself as the fearless leader of a pack of island kids (although some might replace fearless with foolish).
  Although Yoko aged, her personality hadn’t, and she was still the same loud and reckless Yoko in middle school. Halfway through, however, her father had secured a job on the mainland as a teacher. He was already happily employed as one of the local elementary school teachers in Momokajima, but perhaps he became greedy for the upscale city life. Thus, Yoko and her parents left the island in search for another home in the city. While they knew the city would be more fast-paced than what they were used to, what they didn’t know was that they wouldn’t be able to keep up. Or rather, they would become too swept away in the rush.
  Yoko’s loud personality was subdued by the culture shock, and as the young, impressionable girl she was, slowly discarded her island roots in favor for blending in with the city life. Two years of being in a city-based middle school and Yoko had completely adjusted. While she continued to be as loud as always, her old tomboy-ish habits would soon be replaced with the latest trends.
  Yoko’s lifestyle changed so quickly that she didn’t realize that her father was also captivated by the new culture. Within the first year, Yoko had noticed a change in her family’s atmosphere. Things were tense, and a little sensitive. Her mother would reassure her daughter that the move had made things a little stressful, and Yoko took her word for it. However, what started out as small disagreements turned into full-fledged fights, and Yoko’s parents were on the edge of a divorce. While she was a bit slow on the uptake sometimes, she wasn’t stupid, and she later found out that her father had been unfaithful for quite some time.
  Despite their constant disagreements, the Hanawa's did agree on one thing: that Yoko would be able to finish her junior high education in one piece. Soon after her graduation, the divorce papers were filed, and Yoko and her mother returned to the island in time for her to begin high school. Although she hadn’t been away from the island for that long, Yoko had already changed tremendously. Would she have to just readjust with her city persona or will she return to her island roots?
