I like this so far, but why if he's talking to trash like them, or to himself, would he speak in polite desu form? I think something like 'icemen ka? omaetachi yori, Osakajin wa tsuyoi da yo.'
アイスメンか。。。お前たちより大阪人は強いだよ。
would be much cooler. At the moment it seems like you're putting in Japanese just at random, it'd work better as a device if it was more consistant.

Looks like someone's finally calling me out on my Japanese Sit back and enjoy my rant...

The first line 'Icemen desu ka' was supposed to be him questioning their worth to himself, then shifting outwards and talking trash to them in a language they can understand. Something I think is too implicit in retrospect is the 'Osaka line'...I should have added 'Even' at the beginning, because I meant him to imply his trash talking two gangs at once ("Osaka fighters suck, but at least they're better than you guys"). But you pointed out my grammar and offered a nice substitute line, which is good. I think I'll work on this and re-upload a revised version later tonight...

The tricky thing with consistency in an English comic is that if I type up romaji/hiragana et. al then I run the risk of alienating non-Japanese readers. Do I translate/transliterate the Japanese? Do I just add the sharp brackets and type up their Japanese speech in English cuz I don't have enough Nihongo skillz to back me up? I also have to consider the comic layout, keeping it clean while figuring in the translations...it's still an ongoing experiment I guess, especially when I'm only armed with basic JAPN 100 skillz

Thanks for the comment though; it opened up a few things I'll have to keep in mind when I do the next pages...Doumo

I write way too much sometimes...

Well, I know what you mean, at the moment you kind of have some bits in romaji, some bits in hiragana and some bits in Megatokyo style sharp brackets. I just finished my second year of a university Japanese course and I'm going to Nagoya for my third year quite soon, but I still can rarely say exactly what I want to say, only the basic jist. What I kind of meant was that you wouldn't talk to yourself using desu. It'd be like...hmmm...well, there's not really an English equivalent, but when you're talking to yourself, you don't generally speak in a formal way. Problem is of course, they teach you desu and masu form first when you're learning.
If you need anything checking over with the Japanese used, or want suggestions, don't hesitate to call. I'll put you on comic watch when I do my next journal, I think because your comic is pretty cool, especially the artwork.

After the first caption, I was tempted to yell out "I'm Bruce Way-err I mean Batman! Batman!" *Punches thug's teeth out* XD

Cool shading work with this one. A sound victory.

Hahaha, that actually looks a lot funnier now that I keep thinking about that line from Batman.

Mmm, Batman Begins...that's gonna be one sweet movie...

Hard to say really, but I do like the heavenly idea that they're going to resort to the old tactics and give that atrocious neon look the flick. It's like a dream come true. My hatred for the last two movies' style is in droves... but Jim Carrey was still cool as the Riddler. There had to be some sort of zanginess there I guess. >_>

So who is going to be the main villains in this new one? They used to keep saying that Jack was going to make a famous return as the Joker, but I still have my doubts.

Yeah, I really like how they're doing this one...Christian Bale looks like the perfect Batman. Best line in one of the trailers is when he's testing the Batmobile prototype: "Does it come in black?"

I actually liked 'Forever', just cuz the villains were played by good actors (I agree, Jim Carrey is really creepy when he puts his mind to it). The whole Batman+Robin+Batgirl thing they spun off with just ruined it. And Ahnold as Mr. Freeze? He's like the opposite of Mr. Freeze!

I'm not sure about the villains in 'Begins', because I'm assuming most of the movie will focus on his becoming Batman; he might just beat up on gangsters/thugs or something. I also doubt it'll be Joker, because he was done so well in the first movie and Jack's getting kinda old for him to do it again...

Man, I love comics so much...can you tell? Sin City, now THAT was a GOOD movie...

Granted, Arnie is a great actor, and his role as Mr Freeze was funny as heck to laugh at... Still, given the sadness of the character casting, I think he'd have made a better role for Batman. Clearly, he did not have the correct look/wits/style/voice/everything to be Mr Freeze. XD

As for Jack being too old? That would depend on computer digitalisation. Hey it works for everything else. It's really just his voice we need to savour. Or at least bring in an alternative. I declare Mark Hamill!

(Just in case if you don't know, ol' Mark was the creative brillance for the Joker's voice in the TV Animated Cartoon show)

Oh yeah, I remember that I loved the Batman cartoon, so dark and gritty (at least at the beginning). Have you ever watched Batman Beyond? I was a big fan of that too.

Are you kidding? *hides collection of VHS recorded tapes* Batman Beyond is like my most loved American made cartoon show. I like it even better than the past tense... (Well I suppose that's probably due to watching some episodes about a thousand times each in my youth, and BB is still kinda only a few years old to me) Here's some interesting trivia for ya. In Australia, BB was renamed as Batman of the Future.

Speaking of these cool shows... Have you ever seen "Invasion America"? I've only seen Book One of the series, but it had a similar likeness to BB's animation and style. Much older too.

Invasion America sounds really familiar, but I can't put my finger on it...what was it about?

[link] <--- that link should help a little.

It was good for its time, and naturally was tip-toeing into uncharted lands with its battle CG'ing. Still, not a bad effort, and the main character somewhat looks like Terry McGinnis, though no where near as cool a character. XD
