Description Because it gets cold in the winter atmosphere when you're an airship pirate.

This is my first fleece hat to make. It's a fun medium. Too bad that it's almost always too warm here to enjoy wearing it.

The lens of the goggles are plastic magnifying glasses from the dollar store painted with metallic blue craft acrylic. I know that the nose bridge is a little wide, but it was a learning process. Both pieces can be worn separately and the goggles are adjustable. The hat buttons beneath the chin.

Made for 's monthly challenge of fleece hats.

Hey, I was asked to make a hat like this, and If you could give me some tips on making it, I'd love you forever! On the brown trim, how did you do that? Please and thank you, from one sewer to another.

I just used a strip of the lighter fleece, folded over the side edges and pinned it, then ran the edge with a sewing machine. The puffy quality of it comes from the fleece itself. Good luck!

That is amazing. I do say that the nose bridge is fine because it's to sit in top of the head, not to actually wear.

Love it! For a long time I've had a fascination with aviation (and steam punk, which sometimes seems to go hand in hand), there's just something about it, that sense of adventure haha!
Anyway, very nice work

Thanks! I'm pretty new to the steampunk thing, but I'm having a blast exploring it. When this challenge came up, I figured it was the perfect excuse to stretch myself.

I'm so glad you like them!

Oh it's smashing fun! I love the aesthetic of it you know? It seems to have that Victorian 'twidlyness' combined with brass and glass; nuts and bolts functionality. And buckets of style.

Anyway well done and hope you have fun in your further explorations

That is so cute. I'm now really interested in the idea of "inappropriate" fleecy hats. If that makes sense. Like, stuff that shouldn't be fleecy.

bdunn1342 In reply to my-daroga [2008-11-19 14:53:42 +0000 UTC]

I think I just might. I've developed a pretty severe enjoyment of the medium (its softer/more snugglable than felt and doesn't fray) and have had the urge to try all sorts of other hats like Tophats and tricorns and such. I don't know if I will, but you never know...

I was totally thinking about a top hat and wondering if it would work.
