Another contest I was invited to participate in-- by Attache who has also commisioned me!This is Life and Death-- again. For a while now I had wanted to redo the couple and had worked out a few comps but when I saw the references for Vannessa Lake I knew she'd be the perfect model for this.
I got a lot of inspiration from Frank Franzetta,

I may need to lighten it up-- colors tend to show up way brighter on my work computer. This is all digital-- with traditional sketch of course-- made to look paintly. I was really going for looseness like in Franzetta's work and I took a lot of inspiration from his choice of colors too

Life a woman who gives birth and ....Death the Angel who takes it!!! he comes in a gruesome form to take the wicked and an pleasant form to take the pious ones

The emotion and insinuation in this painting is very powerful. It's really a treat to gaze into, especially with her eyes as a focal point. Well done!

This is a phenomenal piece of art. Life is a beautiful creature who appears only slightly apprehensive but I particularly love the delicate touch that, still, she is relatively calm at the touch of Death, for she knows his eventuality and how he is only an extension of her - and this is shown exactly by how intertwined these two components are into one another. Bravo!

Love the contrast.
The painterly strokes on Life really add to the mood.
And composition is phenomenal.
