Skölen are best known for the behavior of wearing skulls scavenged from death sites of other animals. These grisly masks, marked with surprising intricacy through the use of natural pigments, serve as protection for their own vulnerable faces.

Their scavenging habits extend well past finding the perfect skull. The females are known to boast a beautiful collection of anything from bones to leaves to rocks or the like. The collecting female skölen will arrange her treasures on an intricate display to attract a mate. The transient male must in turn impress her with his own assortment of scavenged feathers that he will gather and tuck amidst the fur of his mane.

In the wild, they tend to prefer solitude and will fight ferociously against other skölen to defend their territories and hoards and protect what is theirs. However, if resources are plentiful enough, it is not uncommon to find small colonies of skölen existing peacefully among each other, which makes them well-suited to a domestic setting where they are never in want of food or personal space.

____

The skulls our Skölen wear are resin cast from a custom sculpted mold. Once set, each skull is individually etched and further sculpted to be truly unique from one another. The markings are hand-painted with acrylics.

The poseable bodies are fashioned from acrylic yarn. It is first secured to sturdy 9-gauge aluminum wire and then brushed to extreme fluffiness.

Each Skölen comes with an official wax-sealed certificate of adoption, hand-signed by both Beak and Badger.
