Latest project in MM Class: Make your own flash game with simple object collision.The instructions are to use your left and right arrow keys to move Altair left and right.
Now here's the tricky part that no one seemed to understand.
ONLY THE HEAD CANNOT TOUCH ANY OBSTACLES
From the shoulder down, HE CAN HIT OBSTACLES. Only his head people.
It's not impossible, many people have finished the game.
Now since I had some extra time in class, I made some easter eggs hidden throughout the game :3
There are 3 of them. You'll know when you have found one because when you roll over it it'll glow. You'll have to click it to see the easter egg.
And they are not that hard to find, again, many people have done this. I hope you do find all of them - I had a blast making them LOLOLOL

It's possible! It's just I didn't have the skill to make it super amazing so you have to imagine there is a box around the obstacles (his head is the only thing that can't touch anything - but his body can, there's a hint).
Aaaaah I'm sorry it caused you frustration xD It's not the best thing ever (even I can't get to the bottom without a few tries myself) but I'm glad you at least tried it out!

I tried it about 50 goddamn times! Don't worry, I actually like frustratingly difficult games. Still, this one could use a little tweaking to maybe give Altair a couple of extra centimetres...

But I somehow missed the 3rd easter egg ... I found the one in the intro, than the on where you can start the game but the 3rd is still "undercover" D:

I already beat the game after 1311x trying and
I never saw any easter eggs
but I did see part of the Tobuscus literal and an animation of altair taking down a guard :"D
also, nothing concerning of the actual game itself, but, I really like how you drew malik's hair after the intro part

Yeah the easter eggs are a pain, I made them so the buttons leading to the eggs would glow if your mouse went over them, but I think I hid them a bit too well ><

Knight Templars are a faction of really extreme Christians from a long time ago. xD At least, that's how I remember... Anyways, the new evil team, Team Plasma from Black and White, are based off of Knight Templars.

Unless you play it 10x and you memorize where the obstacles are, then yes, it is very hard and borderline frustrating xD

Left past the first obstacle, left left past the second, aaaaand, either hit right too fast and crash in to the platform he's passing, or hit right to slow, and crash into the tree.
At least, I think that's what I'm hitting. I don't actually hit anything, I just desynchronize.
Next try: cannonball RIGHT THROUGH THE TREE. Maybe that'll be more successful. Can't work any worse than what I've been trying.

I just tried it and it works fine. I know I know xD It's a really sucky game but I don't think there is a way to make the Movie Clip around one particular object and not boxy (assuming you know how to work Flash here)
I know it's hard to udnerstand but what you have to do is avoid the obstacles (by alot!) because there are those stupid invisible boxes that Movie Clips force you to make. It's like rapid continuous left/right button mashing...
lol I might try the cannonball, I know its frustrating if you keep losing and you don't know why. But thanks for at least trying it out! Maybe once this class gets going I can learn how to make actual games that work, huh? xD

My keyboard lags, so I doubt there is any way for me to navigate the tree as the game stands.
The only time I had to do anything regarding collision was to make a little arrow controlled rocketship that could crash into stationary meteors. But, to make the collision tighter around the meteors, I actually broke them into smaller pieces, and just piled them on top of each other, so that each piece had a separate box.
like...[link] Each clump of leaves around the edges of the tree would have a separate box, meaning that the detection would be jagged, but closer to the tree.
I know there is a way to make the collision detect the object, not the box, but my teacher never actually felt like teaching that to me, and had us working with a version of flash so outdated, it threw fits with Windows XP. I have no idea what the newer versions can and can not do.

Yeah the one we use in class (and what I have on my computer) is Flash 8 but apparently there is a new flash program called...CS5? Or something. IT HAS PEN PRESSURE which makes me jealousss!

I know, and if you ever tried making something a Movie Clip symbol in flash you'd know why you lose when you get "near" them... Unfortunately I can't make each individual obstacle its own movie clip, there just has to be this HUGE ASS BOX around the thing, and the program makes it that whenever you touch the box (not the obstacle) you "hit it". If that makes any sense.
I know you can "win" the game by avoiding them by alot, but it's really hard to understand if I don't show them/tell them in person. Sucky game, I know lol

Its not that it sucks, its way better then what I can do. Its a great game! I see what you mean, I tried making games an that in flash, and so far I have always failed.
