Description Marilyn Manson.
It's been some time since I last drawn him. October 10th and 11th I get to witness my artistic inspiration again on stage, and this image is a tribute to him and the coming weekend. (not traced, just using photographic reference, so proportions are a bit squiff!

Thank you very much for the critique! You bring up a good point about the eyes (which I consider to be the gateway to the soul) so I shall continue to work on those aspects. Fairly hard at times, but challenges make us grow and practice makes perfect, so thank you very much I appreciate the feedback

awesome pic. even with the proportions off, it has a cool fish-eye effect (which you could probably get away with passing off as intentional if you so chose). es neat

Hard to imagine I drew this 5 years ago.

Yes... completely intentional In honesty, my interest in him has slipped a little in these years.

LOL, my grandma made me look up "jesus" under google images (cause we were talking about religion n stuff), and this was on page 19. She's a real Jesus freak, though she didnt say anything about it. My grandma doesnt know me at all, she thinks I looove "Jesus" and/or "God", she has no idea. XD LOVE this drawing btw, amazing detail.. :3

Hehehe that's an awesome story right there! She may not have known who he is, that or it's another case of Mr Manson popping up in the strangest google searches
And on the other hand, those who dislike him, can at least usually appreciate the craft behind the drawing

Thank you for sharing how you found this with me and thank you for the compliments I love these sorts of unique stories

Incredible! The shading is fantastic. This is a beautiful representation of Manson. I, personally, love that the proportions are a bit "squiff". I think it adds to the stylization of the piece.

beanarts In reply to ComicalChaos [2011-01-13 14:53:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you A lot of people seem to like the off proportions so I don't mind at all.
The shading was a pain in the ass and took hours. Probably would have been MUCH quicker with a pencil and blending stick, but I've never been one to rush things

ComicalChaos In reply to beanarts [2011-01-13 23:13:06 +0000 UTC]

The amount of time and care this used shows in it's detail and texture. I'm glad you didn't rush it, I think it's certainly worth all the effort you put into it.

Thank you for the kind words I appreciate it. It's funny because I was so obsessed with perfection and realism, that the proportions got me frustrated, but now it seems most people like that aspect so I'm starting to not mind that at all
Thank you

Thank you for the kind words I can't remember when I started drawing, but I remember drawing a lot of E.T as a child. Just draw whenever you can and continue to develop your style and craft I still wish I had half the talent of some painters out there, we just need to embrace the specific gifts we have been given
Thank you again

Thanks love, not sure how long exactly. I started it mid year and spent several 3 and 6 hour sessions on it.
I remembered Manson was coming last weekend to Melbourne, so that gave me a kick up the butt to get it finished
Thanks again

really cool dude - the weird proportions make it sooo much better.

beanarts In reply to magillaGuerilla [2009-10-13 11:16:53 +0000 UTC]

Cool thanks The idea that weird proportions making it better is a new concept to me but I guess it adds a human hand element to not get it absolutely perfect.
Cheers

Really nice details on the rings especially C:
And as always when I see a portrait I like, I praise the use of lines, such as here (: I can't stand when pplz are smudging the hell outta their pics D:

I do agree that some proportions may be strange, but you can't rly see that in fullview ;> Awesome job!

Thank you for the feedback! Very appreciated I agree with the smudgies, but it's hard to smudge pen ink Kind of limited to cross hatch rendering and such
Thank you

Noss91 In reply to beanarts [2009-10-11 14:29:58 +0000 UTC]

You sayin' that this is made with ink?! I tried looking at it but... I can't decide! At some places it looks like ballpoint and on others it looks just like pencil!

Anyhow, you're welcome

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

beanarts In reply to Noss91 [2009-10-13 11:29:29 +0000 UTC]

Well in all honesty, there was some very minor lead work involved, but that was to blend the edges of the ink into the paper a bit more. There's only so light you can get with a pen. I think I only did the nose, the brow area and edge of his pinky with light pencil rubbing, but some of it could even just be my hand and the dirt from it. Anything that looks like a stroke is pen. I didn't render or draw anything in pencil, only used a little bit of lead to blend slight edges. To give you an idea, several hours went into the pen work, and only 5 seconds went into the lead rendering.

Of course I did do a brief sketch in pencil, but all pencil for the most part was erased. There could be some minor traces left.
