Description This was an on-location drawing I did a few weeks ago of the interior of the Pittock Mansion, a... well a mansion here in Portland.

I took it into Photoshop, changed some things a tad, and painted it up to be all spooky.

My original drawing is here: [link]

Yesterday upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today, oh how I wish he'd go away."

great!I like the color and the technique! it's really feel like old.
But the right-hand column incorrectly set: it must be identical to the left.
and right rails are very angular.
But still i love this artwork

Yeah, few little perspective issues for sure.

Thanks though!

Why is the ghost so small? It can only sit on one stair. Just something I'm pointing out and asking, no offense intended.

Actually if you look at how the perspective works out, the bottom stair is just huge. the ghost's pretty normal sized.

Problem with working too directly from life is if the real thing has an anomaly, then it comes off odd in the art. 'Swhy I shoulda exaggerated reality, but I didn't.

Suirehtul In reply to Beanjamish [2009-08-31 00:06:12 +0000 UTC]

Totally missed how focal the bottom stair is. But now that I compare the ghost to the couch a little I see he could actually sit on the couch. I'd suggest making the ghost bigger, but then again that would make it unrealistic. But, overall a good piece.

Beanjamish In reply to Suirehtul [2009-08-31 00:18:47 +0000 UTC]

Nah, I actually had him bigger and it was quite a bit worse. I think it's just easier to accept that there is one large step.

Very lovely, Mr. Bean!

I love the subtle coloring, and the atmosphere of the place is just gorgeous (referencing another piece of your work, this setting looks as though it could have been one of the colored rooms from Visages past. Perhaps if he had not manifested as an undead, that would be his lonely ghost... drama oh ho ho). As for the figure itself, it has great emotion in it, even though we cannot see any really concrete details.

Just... this is one great piece of art (especially considering how I always find it difficult to draw architecture, reference or not).

Very nice! The lighting is really neat and the ghost is a nice touch. I especially think the detail along the ornamental molding on the ceiling (in both the lineart and the coloring) came out well.

Oh my god. I love the spiritual feeling of this piece.

There's a good balance between the greener and redder tones.

The spirit sitting there completes this piece. It gives us an eerie focal point. That and it looks awesome.

Great detailed background.

It's fun to draw things on-location.
