Shade is the firstborn in the royal Blackthorn family, making him the next to inherit the throne after his father, King Valdis. As a child, naturally like any prince, he was spoiled heavily and usually spent his time inside the palace of Galveron Castle, honing his skills with not only his affinity, but his sword as well. At the age of nine, his mother was murdered by an assassin from another kingdom. What baffled Shade for years to come was that he could never trace back the origins of the assassin, nor could he find out who it was that actually killed his mother. The queen of the kingdom being assassinated was far too big a deal to have no information on her killer whatsoever. This was one of many things that clouded the young prince's judgement. Aside from his father's influence in making Shade assist in his plans for world conquest, Shade constantly fights against the curse laid upon his people during a war that ravaged all of Aether many years ago. This curse plagues all inhabitants of the kingdom with an affinity to darkness, permanently altering their skin color while warping and twisting their minds over time. Some people have gone completely insane, slaughtering one another, while others like Shade have managed to keep their mental state intact. However, as tensions rise between Alemos and Galveron and Shade's thoughts beginning to waver, he begins to question just what the answer to all this chaos is.
