Description Experimenting with brushes and process.

This is around 18x12" and I only had some sketchy lines down, no details or anything when I started inking it. I didn't have a plan when I started, just some guy slashing at something. It's pretty messy, but I had fun doing the texture.

Ink and white acrylic.

thank ya! yeah, i'm still trying to figure out a fun comic style. not sure how i feel about this one. i find it really tough to make one line and stick with it. i find the slow rendering to be much more satisfying, but it sucks cuz i still want to make comics, and not spend forever on them.

must... keep... experimenting!

this is going to be colored by my friend JF Beaulieu who colored my work for DDP and he's now doing the OZ book with Skottie Young. very exciting to see how it will turn out!

Embrace the messiness! The textures look great. Lots of dry brush? A fan brush? It'd be cool to see you do a dystopian comic with inking like this.

haha, yes! i don't know if you're familiar with Nathan Fox's work, but last year I was fortunate enough to have my table in artist's alley at Chicago Comic Con right next to his and got to watch him work. I asked him tons of questions and looked through his original work and bought one of his pages. so awesome. he's had an impact on me for just getting messy with ink and drawing with the brush. not worrying so much about a polished underdrawing. it's really liberating to just draw in ink and see what happens. i've been exploring different tools and i can see the power of that. a pencil can often lead to a lot of indecisiveness for me, while ink makes me more bold and have to go with my initial choice. you should try it!

and yes, i would looooove to do a dystopian comic. all in good time. right now, i'm going researching and planning for a 24 pages comic i'm writing for myself. hoping to have it done by Summer next year, but who knows.

it was on 18x24" watercolor paper. mixing is fun. see what happens. it's like a scientific experiment.

i'm going to try and color it and see what happens. i think i'll make the blood bioluminscent.
