I have a neat story to go along with this rather ineffectual doodle.

Sometimes at work, I decide that I have nothing important to do, and wind up doodling or sketching on bits of scrap cardboard. In this case I started drawing a girl's face - not trying to make her anything special, just mapping out a face that someone might actually own somewhere.

After work, I decided to take my drawing home because I didn't want it to end up in a recycling bin. I stopped at the ATM to take out some money and propped it on the floor by my feet. Two women walked by, and one of them remarked, "that's a beautiful picture". I turned around to see the face of a woman who looked like she had been in a horrible car accident: she literally had no real face. The skin on her head, neck, and arms had been burned so badly that it was an unreal shade of pink. She had no hair, no eyebrows, or eyelashes, her nose was a small bump with two nostril holes and she had just a slim line of a mouth with no lips.

I could only say thank you in a kind way as I've learned to say to nice compliments about my work, and I felt so sad afterwards. I thought, I could have given her my drawing because she really liked it, it hasn't been touched since I brought it home. After I wondered who she was, how she had been hurt, and what she looked like before. Maybe like my random face construction, who knows?

It was a moment that I have yet to fully understand, I think. I hope I see her again.
