Description
The purple spyleaf glided across the ground as if she were walking on air. She had been specially trained to stalk prey silently, and she had been born with incredible instincts to guide her. The elk pricked its ears a little, acknowledging the fact that there was something nearby. It lifted its head cautiously, scanning the clearing around it. It sensed multiple predators surrounding it, but could not see any. It began to back away slowly into the bushes behind it, hoping the coast was clear enough to run. This plan backfired, however, because just as it set foot in the bushes behind it, something liquid was shot into its fur, sticking to it and sinking into its flesh. It was excruciatingly painful; it felt as if it had just been shot with a dart. Suddenly, multiple spyleaves shot out of the bushes around it, releasing shots of venom from their leaves and spikes. Not a single one missed the target. A loud wail of pain and desperation emerged from the elk's mouth, before it collapsed dead on the leaves beneath it.
The spyleaves cheered, congratulating each other on a 'job well done.' With a single flick of her antennae, the purple spyleaf signalled for the patrol to drag the elk away, back to the den where her colony resided.
"Nice work out there, Spooder," clicked a green spyleaf, complimenting the purple one's hunting skills. This, however, did not amuse her in the slightest.
"Tough luck, Moss. I know you're trying to flirt with me."
Moss's antennae drooped and he frowned. He mumbled something under his breath before slinking away into his nest.
