Rankin Bass' Return of the King was not critically nor commercially embraced, but it hasn't gone away, either.Like Disney's Sleeping Beauty, it featured GREAT character designs that defied animators to move all the details properly. Eowyn is one such character. I had the damn toughest time getting all the shapes to fit together and keep them all in proportion.
To tell the truth, I know I didn't succeed. Try, try again.
Before she removes her helmet, she mouths off to the Witch King and does what a lot of characters in the film did, sweep a foreshortened arm across with outstretched fingers. I skipped the arm and concentrated on the face, using a loose sketch from the mid 80s I hadn't thrown out.
Worth another try. NB: I slightly redrew and shaded this picture, Aug 2013.
