I made an attempt at this exact image not too long ago. it's interesting to see the similarities/differences between yours and mine. question: did you have as much trouble with Sara's face as i did? i just couldn't get it. as a matter of fact, i NEVER finished the drawing because of her face.

haha, I see you're like me... you won't finish a drawing unless you're happy with the face/s! I did have a lot of trouble with Sara's face, mostly with her mouth and her right eye. I still don't think I got it right, but it got to the point where I just couldn't fix it anymore. :/

Yes! That right eye was definitely a pain! But yours turned out great. I've been practicing faces (specifically lips and noses) for the past few weeks. Kind of getting the hang of it.

I can't believe that only took 4 hours. Seriously. How is that possible.

Dude, the clothes look awesome! You have such a steady hand to be able to get those stripes so close together! I'm so jealous of that. If I tried it I would end up with just a mass of black.

ahh the stripes! they alone took nearly an hour, because I was so determined to try to make the shirt look somewhat 3D. meh. you must have a pretty steady hand to be able to cut out your stencils as well as you do!

Well it definitely paid off! It's interesting looking at the unfinished hand, and something I've just noticed in the t&s gif as well...is that when drawing these you just pencil in the outline shape.. I don't really know how to word this haha. There is no centre lines or rough shapes pencilled in to figure out proportion. The fact that you can just do that and the end result isn't out of proportion or looking flat is pretty incredible.

haha I don't think it's mechanical at all! I only say it because I was taught even when using a grid for the outline you should still pencil in the shapes and centre lines to help with shading or else your image will end up looking very flat. But that's not the case with your drawings at all! I'm taking a drawing class this semester just for the hell of it. It's frustrating as hell because they are teaching everyone that you have to draw in a certain way, the "right way." which is shit. Different ways work better for different people and the methods they are teaching us makes me want to throw my easel out the window. that turned in to a bit of an art school rant. The point being, this way works really well for you!

Haha yeeeaaah the drawing classes make you do all the lessons in charcoal aswell. You might hate it haha. Nah charcoal is really fun but takes a while to get the hang of it. What kind did you use? If it wasn't willow charcoal I suggest trying some of that because it's thinner and less messy, so it's better for getting in some detail. This is one of the charcoal drawings from my life drawing class I did like..2 years ago now.. [link] I am quite proud of it considering I had never really used charcoal when I started the class..and we only got 45 minutes to draw it. If you're going to take any sort of drawing classes life drawing is definitely the way to go me thinks.
And oooooh i cant wait to see it done! 3 months is pretty reasonable considering the size and the amount of detail in it!
