His father was a wholesale druggist and Crosland was an antique dealer and furnisher restorer, as well as an artist. Crosland painted villages and river scenes around Derbyshire — Ambergate, Clifton, Nottinghamshire were among some of the areas where he painted. Crosland was a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists and exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
