Description Previous

After a tired night in the tent and a little dip in the river, the two stroll around the still-in-repair town. One of the Machokes from Granite, Co. had finally managed to get the fountain right side up, though Nancy's favorite haunt was long from being nearly spout-ey enough to be a fountain. The woods were unexplored to them, however, so they decided that would be their inter-mission hanging spot--so long as Ambrose didn't get himself frozen solid after a mission.

Both were happy that development hadn't touched this part of the woods, though Nancy was apt to complain at how hot it was outside. Having a small flame in one's gut made them impervious to heat, more or less, so Ambrose's greatest complaint was Nancy herself.

Suddenly, a smoky glint caught their eye in a dried up little pond they hadn't noticed when it had been snowing. At the bottom of the pond was a pretty blue and pink egg, a ring of mud cracking around it. It seemed when it had fallen in the pond, the mud had cushioned its fall.

"You don't suppose it...might have--" Nancy sputtered, fearing the worst.

"No way, look at the marks and colors, that's a ghost egg," Ambrose said. "Whoever's in that egg, I think, probably felt pretty indifferent to the cold. Let's get it back, regardless."

Back at Missy's daycare--doubly noisy from the construction and children still frightened of Sorbert--the two present the egg to Missy, and it's appraised as a Misdreavus egg. However, according to her, no Misdreavus or Mismagius had come in to drop off an egg--nor did she know of any who even lived in the village.

Nancy's spiny face suddenly began to lift, making Ambrose's face proportionately sink. She begged Missy for the egg, who was at a loss to deny her--and thus, Nancy became a mom.

Ambrose of course wished he never picked up that egg.
