Ikr! although i keep going back to using pastels , like the recent character disign i made is, for sure brighter than my normal, but still pretty muted ( Melanie Young  ) any tips for bright colors? since im used to pastels i dont really have much experience in the saturation past sunsets (and even then)

ahh i suggest using at least one or two bright colors in your palette 
usually these bright colors will go to aspects of your character you want to draw attention in (hair, eyes, accessories)
you should also fing a way to contrast these bright colors with the rest of the design, for example:


see how the black, grey and pale skin colors really make the blue of eyes and hair stand out?
this can make really simple designs come to life

i know many artists insist that using bright colors is bad 
but you really shouldn't be afraid to use them at all!!

hmm, spesifcally for watch the clock (the name of the story that Melanie belongs to) this might be a bit weird (its the future and i plan on it being very colorful (btw story wise its less that shes from the future and more we're from the past)))))) but i could work that for most my other stories (thing is is watch the clock will also not be a comic so the colors are up to change from whenever i draw them) 

yeah i see, thats something im pretty bad with- normally with color i add it to the clothes which is like the oposite you wanna do very few of my characters do it well.

i know , i try my best to use bright colors but sometimes i default and im trying to change that, maybe give advice on characters? like melanie for example, im up for changing her disign as her current one is a redisgn on its own from her old look (which was, bland and pastel)

well she herself is not a time traveler, but multipul outfits would be nice , just so ya know she rides a motorcycle type thing, so the shoes either gotta be sneakers or have straps, and she cant have any floating things that cant easily be like attached back to the outfit (things can float) sorry if that isnt the best description

here's what i did!! tell me what you think

on the past one i went for a steampunk vibe with lots of warm colors
and with the future one i tried to make it colorful but at the same time keeping up the cool color palette
