Description This is a steampunk kaleidoscope viewer I made using a recycled diffuser lens from an old enlarger, some old bits of hardware, some copper and brass tubing, a broken mirror and some parts from a broken super 8 movie camera.
The parts for the kaleidoscope body are turned from Australian cedar, rosewood and ebony... the base is mahogany. The way it works is you place whatever you wish to look at on the viewing platform and you get a kaleidoscope image of the object magnified to approx 10x.

This is beautiful! I love Victorian-style kaleidoscopes, telescopes, etc. Why make a machine when you can make a beautiful, decorative machine, as well?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I think that kaleidoscopes are really small alternate reality ray guns.... but don't tell anybody!

I think you might be onto something here. Maybe if you made a really BIG kaleidoscope and studied all the reflections really carefully, you'd start to see the subtle differences between worlds...

Meantime, though, I' think I'll stick with "Oooh, look at the pretty patterns!"
