I’ve been telling lies to myself,Stabbing myself in the back,
Laughing behind my back and going over my head.
Y’see, for a long time I really thought that we were doing ok,
We had it worked out for a while.
That was another lie.
It just isn’t the case at all.
I’ve been sleeping for so long,
Now it hurts my eyes to see,
They burn and bleach white like putrid cue-balls,
Rolling around inside my head.
Now I realise that nothing really matters,
Nothing at all.
With every chance of a new beginning –
All we do is destroy.
Every opportunity for peace,
Ends in blood and tears,
Skinned corpses and flaming cities.
We have failed,
We have failed,
We have failed.
Too drunk on conceit,
Too fucked and too dead.

sigh... this is why your insight and poetry is so important... to remind us of who we are meant to be. I wish I could get into a technical critique, but the subject matter is on the front page and my mind swirls down its drain.

i agree with the poem, and it fits in with all the war going on

this really reminds me of my ex-boyfriend's attitude. he told me once that if he could push a button to wipe every human off the earth, he would, because we've managed to fuck the planet up so much, the only way to undo it is to take us out of the equation. i'm not sure how accurate that is, and i can't exactly explain how your poem related to that but i think it was the description that reminded me of it and then i went in, reading it from that angle. whether that is in some way, however minor, what you were trying to get across, i think you did it really effectively. very powerful and thought-provoking work
