Description
The pain in my right arm is unbearable,
A searing, raw mess just below the elbow,
Numb fingers that I can no longer move or feel touch the floor.
I can hear the horde moving outside in the hallway,
Banging on the door.
They shuffle and groan amongst themselves in a tongue with one word.
They’ll be here soon enough,
Soon enough – to chew away my flesh,
Stain this room with obscene colour.

Fuck, the itching is so intense,
It rips at my insides,
The hunger.

We tried to fight them off,
To survive, to get away,
But it’s no use.
They attack – a sea of walking corpses,
Murdering whoever they meet,
Pure instinct – like animals.
We used uncountable numbers of bullets but no avail.
A suit on TV told us to destroy the brain,
No use, we’ve failed.
WE ARE DEAD.

I can feel the infection spreading thru my body,
Erasing all trace of humanity,
Becoming pure.
It leaves behind only a cold, bleak darkness and pain.
Oh, so much pain, it numbs my bones.
Poison.
The hunger.
