Description This picture is based on a true story! Back in the day when we first got our Columbian Boa, Emmy, all we had was a fish tank and a heat rock for her, and we had no idea what a CHICKEN snake she was! Munchie survived three runs in the snake tank before we decided that she'd earned the right to become a new pet. Unfortunately, our other pet rats didn't agree and conducted a gang land style killing and bit out her throat! Poor Munchie...

HA! so cute!
I actually had this happen once with a mouse and one of my snakes.
usually the mouse barely lasts 5 seconds,
but this one lasted more than 15 minutes! I finally got tired of waiting (i always watch to make sure my babies don't get bitten!)
finally i took the mouse out and kept her as another pet. ha! :]

I remember this one well. You know, if you could think of a happier ending, it might make a great children's storybook.

Ooh! That it might! The Adventures of Emmy and Munchi! I'll have to get Skorzy to write the story.

:Laughs!: Haha! I would never have guessed a snake scared of a rodent. I miss my rats, we had to give them awauy when we moved to americas. =/ Never owned a reptile before, other than keeping wild lizards as a kid. Still, great humor there. xD

Emmy had just been moved into her new home and had previously been raised on road kill. When Munchie sniffed her, she hissed once really loud, then coiled right up and did her best impression of a Ball Python.

I have two pet rats right now, Tip and Spaz. They are adorable. I think though that I'll go for boys next. They just seem to be much more cuddly than the females.

I've only had males.... 6 of them. They are awesome. We had 2 black ones, 1 golden one, and 3 black hooded ones. I do agree that males are far more cuddly and sociable in prolly any species. Dunno why, though. :boggle:

Aww... poor little thing. We had a snake as a class pet once (found it outside), but it only lasted three days. We fed it these snake pellet things, and one day we found it on its back with its mouth open. >__> Poor little dude.

Awe, poor snake... Likely it was already sick if you were able to catch it.

Well, all we have around here are garter snakes. They're small little dudes, and relatively easy to catch. ^^ They're all over in the spring...

LOL!!!! I've always loved this comic!!! The expresions are indeed priceless. The way Emmy is all curled up and fearful is classic.

This happened to us too, about 8 years ago, when we had a Columbian red-tail named Rocky. He was so afraid of rats, that he wouldn't eat em, unless we bonked them in the head first. It didn't take us long to conclude that the rats were the better pets, and we've owned rats ever since.

Well, we didn't give up on Emmy, we just feed her Ratcicles instead. Luckily the local pet store carries a healthy supply of frozen rats and she gets a jumbo one every two weeks.

I still have two girls, Tip and Spaz. We'll probably get boys next though.

Lol! I had a similar experience (that didn't end well either) with my redtailed. Bought too large a rat and it bit her eye, Carmine wouldn't go near live prey for about 6 months. That was then. This is now (when she eats two medium sized rabbits...) .

That's another reason why Skorzy likes to feed Emmy Ratcicles, we don't have the cash to take her to the vet if her food bites back. Emmy is large enough to eat rabbits, but we don't have a source for frozen ones. I'm not sure I could handle the death scream of a live one.

That's INSANELY cute - what wonderul expressions, and what sweet eyes on both of them!! Poor little ratttie, tho - that's just awful!
Hehe - you should've seen Pozie when she got mites! (The snake equivalent of fleas or ticks, for the non-snake-owning public ) I had to take out all her bedding and hiding-logs, and leave her in the tank with only a piece of incecticide wrapped up in a paper towel. Somehow she found a way to squiggle underneath it without it sliding off her, and she wore it like a hat for the whole week, just so she'd have *something* to hide under! I felt so sorry for her.
Snakes just don't seem to feel secure unless they've got a place to hide in, I guess!

We've been lucky in that Emmy is a very healthy snake. About the only issue is a dented eyecap, but that doesn't seem to bother her at all.

The other day Skorzy called me in to see her. Her entire body was out in the open except for her head. She'd stuck it under some newspaper and was perfect content that she was hidden enough.

You should check out Skorzy's Live Journal. I think the two of you would really enjoy snake geeking with each other. And he loves your character design for Fire too.

I'll have to add him - I'd love to snake-geek with him!!
Emmy sounds insanely amusing - that's just *adorable!*
Pozie will stick her head and a few coils in her log and consider herself completely camoflauged, even tho she's completely forgotten her tail. She apparently has no idea that that protruding tail is almost *flourescent* orange!

LOL x.x Who woulda' thunk it aye? First comment? >.> Yes? No? Did someone with a landline upload their comment before me? Argh... <.<; That seems to give me a " Farside" feel.

Thank you! I used to read the Farside religiously, so it wouldn't surprise me to find out it's one of my influences.
