Description EDIT 2: I added in the story between him and my mogi Monarque! Sorry about all the updates, this is the last one

EDIT: I finished up the shading, but because it's so dark (trying to make it night-like), I'm linking the original, flat coloured version as well, because it's easier to see the markings. sta.sh/019r1ztxwa44

I love this little guy so much and his wings are just awesome. Good luck to everyone who has entered their awesome takes on this guy for the DTA contest!

Aunen - Guardian of the night
Pronouns: He/Him/His
Faction: Loyal

Aunen is a quiet Mogi who does not enjoy interacting with other Mogi. When faced with social interaction his reflex is to find the nearest tree and get up to the highest branches where no wingless Mogi can follow. His tendency to perch in trees and watch others however has led him to having a reputation of a bad omen, as if his presence could curse those in it. Aunen is not cursed however, and is usually only looking for ways to help. The reason he only shows up when bad things happen is because he wants to help, not because of some curse.

Aunen is nocturnal, keeping watch for anyone in trouble wandering about in the dark of the night. He keeps to the branches of the trees in the wilds so as to avoid the 'dangers' of the ground, and will often startle Mogi in the dark with his presence, bright green eyes and most notably his wings. He never means to scare those he is trying to help, but due to his appearance, it often seems as though he is.

When not watching out for other Mogi to help, Aunen loves to explore the forest from the tree branches. He has become quite adept at navigating the branches at a run, using his wings only for balance. When no one is watching he'll do some fancy acrobatics as well, but gets quite embarrassed if any other Mogi see him doing so.

This is a little story about how Aunen saved Monarque. Enjoy

Monarque wandered through the forest, following a stream as it wound it's way around tree roots and over rocks. She marveled at how whenever a rock cut the brook in two, the different streams always found their way back together. Venturing deeper and deeper into the forest, the stream took a sharp turn where before it flowed over the edge of a cliff and cascaded down into a deep pool at the bottom. Monarque peered over the edge, watching the deep blue water as it was interrupted by the white foam coming from the waterfall. She would have stayed there forever if a branch had not cracked behind her. Terrified, she was about to whirl around when some pebbles on the edge of the cliff gave way and she tumbled over the edge like the water she had been watching. All she could see above her were two green eyes peering out from behind a leaf in the tree, but all too soon, they too vanished from her sight line as she fell further and further.
--
Aunen was dancing in the tree tops, barely touching the branch as he delicately pranced on light toes. Sliding to a halt, he looked down to the forest floor way below, a tiny form moving among the foliage catching his eye. The other mogi moved gracefully over the roots and rocks, keeping close to the brook. Curious as to where the other mogi was headed, Aunen followed them, running through the branches trying to keep up.

At last the other mogi stopped at the edge of a cliff where the stream flowed over the edge. Aunen moved in for a closer look, he didn't recognize this mogi, but the thin old branch snapped and he fell, managing to catch himself on his wings and dash behind the leaf of another branch. When he looked back where the mogi has been, Aunen watched them fall. Gasping, he lept off the branch and beat his wings as fast as he could to catch up to the falling mogi. Keeping his wings tucked so the other mogi would not see them, he reached out his paw, ther other Mogi took it and Aunen spread his wings to guide them to safety at the edge of the stream.

"Thank you." It was the first time that Aunen had heard that said to him. He was used to 'it's all your fault' or 'just get out of here', but never 'thank you'. He turned to leave, worried that if he stayed any longer he would overstay his welcome.

"I'm Monarque" the mogi spoke again, getting up to follow him. She didn't seem intimidated at all by his wings. Aunen kept walking. "You saved me!" she continued, "you can't just do something like that and expect me to let you walk away. I don't even know your name!"

"Aunen" He replied, still avoiding eye contact with his wings spread for take off.

"Aunen, That's a nice name." Aunen turned around to face her. Monarque's eyes showed no signs of fear, or distrust. She didn't look at him scornfully, she didn't even flinch as he met her eyes, wings outstretched.

"Aren't...aren't you scared of me?"

"Should I be?"

"Maybe? I don't know, the others are." Aunen looked away again, unable to hold her gaze.

After a pause, Monarque walked over to cuddle beside Aunen's hunched form. "Well I'm not," she responded, hunkering down to the ground.

Aunen hesitantly followed her, and she curled her tail around his. "It's a nice view from here, we don't need to leave so soon." Silently Aunen nodded. They stayed curled up by the waterfall all night, but by the time Monarque woke in the morning, Aunen had disappeared. "I'll find you again some day, my hero. You can count on that." She made her way back to the city as Aunen watched her in the shadows of the tree branches.
