Description Ok so I just came back from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and I guess before I talk about this movie, I should say what I thought of the previous 2 movies.
The first film I had a fun with the first movie. It was definitely a weird choice of a project for Marvel at the time and much like a lot of you I thought it was gonna bomb but to my surprise it was amazing. The characters were likable and endearing, the space battles were definitely George Lucas inspired, and it was certainly the biggest surprise of 2014. Then came the second film and in my opinion, it was better than the first. I thought there was a lot more creativity with the effects and the worlds that the characters went to. The characters themselves went through very natural developments and also had a much more entertaining antagonist (thank you Kurt Russel).

Now we have the third film and I was a little worried going in because I haven't really been that interested in the MCU since Endgame and a lot of marvel projects after were getting slammed left and right mostly by audiences. This film in particular was kind of having trouble mainly with the firing and rehiring of James Gunn due to some questionable tweets he was putting out. Then the box office results came, and it didn't look good and with everyone having their own opinions I'm like "Alright just lower your intelligence take it down act like your gonna see the Michael Bay Transformers movie because I like the first film when I don't think too much about it." and Honestly......

I was very surprised. I really enjoyed the hell out of this movie. With that said it's very important to take note that some of the problems that were wrong in the previous phase 4-5 MCU movies are still here and I kind of figured that going in which is a good thing. so, if you guys are like this is going to fix all the problems it doesn't do that but there are a lot of improvements there is still some problems present.

For starters, there is a lot of yelling and screaming present throughout the film and it kind of got annoying after a while. It's not as obnoxious as the screaming goats from love and thunder but it's ear grating. The villain meanwhile kind of reverts back to the first film though I don't know how much. He started off fine at first and I like the idea behind his character which I will get to and yeah, he's definitely the evillest foe the guardians have ever faced but yeah even he screams and yells more than the other characters like some spoiled child wanting attention and control. Speaking of children Adam Warlock (who was the golden guy teased at the end of volume 2) gets sidelined hard in this. I thought they were building him up to be something unstoppable but no he kind of gets beaten a lot and is taken out of the picture entirely until the ending but even that I don't think redeemed him. Other than that I really don't have any other problems.

You could tell that when Gunn came back, he wanted to go all out possibly developing what may be the final instalment of the series. We'll see pretty soon but for now I'm glad Disney finally took that part of their brain that was working and gave him control to let him do whatever he wanted. In my opinion it pays off. Some of the characters in this movie are at their absolute best, the ideas are impressive (maybe a few were leaning into some revenge fantasy but I will get to that), and when it ended, I thought it was a perfect place to stop.

For starters I like how this movie handles Gamora after the events of Infinity War and Endgame and how she lost two whole movies of development. I also like Peter Quill growing to accept reality on how things just aren't the same with the new version. It still leads to great character interactions mainly with how she's the more murderous one and Nebula being the more levelheaded. Speaking of Nebula, she's really great in this movie as well. I always thought infinity war was Gamora's movie while Endgame was Nebulas since she really got to come into her own as a real hero. Only problem was she was with the avengers at that time. Here, this is the first time she's part of the Guardians from the beginning and I like how she cares for Rocket along the cybernetic advancements he gave her, I like how she buts heads with Mantis Frequently, and I like seeing her dynamic with them as allies.

Drax and Mantis are still great in this movie as their super fun selves, Groot is still the same, but he did get some cool new abilities that I wasn't expecting, and I like his head reference to The Thing that was clever.

Now we get to Rocket...He's definitely the emotional core of the story. I like how the second film showcased that his unlikable traits steamed from insecurity on whether or not he deserved to have friends. And even though he kind of gets sidelined in this film too it makes sense because he's the one that needs rescuing, and we get a series of flashbacks showcasing how horrible his creation was and how hard it must be for him to befriend anyone. His backstory is devastating and often brutal and it truly goes to show how much he's been through with these movies as he struggles for new meaning stemming from the trauma of his own creation. Speaking of which you could make the argument that the villain is kind of a Parady of modern Disney as there's the corporate aspect to him on how he needs rockets brain for new ideas since a lot of his old ideas aren't working and watching this film it kind of feels like That James Gunn resents Disney a bit for firing him. It's definitely the most anti-Disney film under their umbrella.

Speaking of Brutal this movie definitely earns the PG-13 Rating. Some of these moments are Gorey but never to point of going over the top which is perfect and it's the only MCU movie to use the f word which was funny as hell. It's also definitely the darkest film in the Guardians films as there's barely any jokes and most of the time it's reflecting on all the characters have been through like COME ON MARVEL GIVE US MORE ADULT MATURE SUBJECT MATTER ALREADY!

Finally, I'm just really glad that Gunn got to give all of these characters I've grown to love the perfect sendoff especially with the cast and crew saying this might be their final film together. And I'm glad that this movie wasn't ruined for me. The writing was excellent, the visuals were finally great again for an MCU movie Which leads me to say that I think I can be done following the MCU the same way I'm done following the recent spider man comics. It just felt like the end of an era for me and it was time for me to move on. But at the end of the day, I am glad that the best trilogy in the MCU gave me this wonderful feeling of satisfaction.

9/10

So yes, definitely worth recommendation and I'm very concerned about this movie's performance but then again, I don't want any more Guardians films. This was the perfect place to end.
