One of my favourite quotes from Momo by Michael Ende:

"Just as people have eyes to see light with and ears to hear sounds with, so they have hearts for the appreciation of time. And all the time they fail to appreciate is as wasted on them as colours of the rainbow are wasted on a blind person or the nightingale's song in a deaf one. Some hearts are unappreciative of time, I fear, though they beat like all the rest."

However, in this case I feel there is some inherent beauty lost in translation. I prefer the direct addressing of the reader in the original.

So here is the original one:

„Denn so wie Ihr Augen habt um das Licht zu sehen, und Ohren um Klänge zu hören, so habt Ihr ein Herz um Zeit wahrzunehmen. Und alle Zeit, die nicht mit dem Herzen wahrgenommen wird, ist so verloren, wie die Farben des Regenbogens für einen Blinden oder das Lied eines Vogels für einen Tauben. Aber es gibt leider blinde und taube Herzen, die nichts wahrnehmen, obwohl sie schlagen.“

And a more literal translation:
"Just as you have eyes to see the light with and ears to hear sound with, so you have a heart to appreciate time. And all the time which is not perceived with the heart is lost as the colours of the rainbow are for a blind person or the song of a bird for a deaf one. But unfortunately there are blind and deaf hearts which do not appreciate anything, even though they beat."
