A while ago my mother told meThat when the world was created
Humans were intended to be a new race
Much like the angels
They would know, and understand
And have choice, but choose to be kind
Paradise was intended for them
So that they could live forever in happiness
The whole of creation was theirs
And that apple
Must’ve looked pretty darn good
The experiment that was us
Didn’t really work out
And now we’re some silly form
Of failed cherubs
Always on the edge of purity
But never quite able to jump high enough
With our broken little wings
We call shoulder blades
Such pitiable little creatures
Who sealed their own fate
Just by wanting to know what they were
And in doing so destroyed themselves
And now we wait
Gets wisps of what was every now and again
Begging to understand what should be
But not even knowing when we see it
