Oh I know that feeling quite well. [link]
Wow. I know full well that twelve-year-olds can make for a tough audience, especially when it comes to matters literary.
So, you're teaching the fair subject of composition, eh?
Which just happens to be one of my specialties.
You just say the word, and I'll come and be your backup.
I'll Chaucer the kids left and right, and fill them with so much of the pure deadliness of Jack London that they won't know what's what.
"Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hellβs heart I stab at thee; for hateβs sake I spit my last breath at thee. Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool! and since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the spear!"

So very true.
Especially when one teaches junior high.
