Description       It came through the radio waves, sending the world’s technology into a frenzy. The city was suddenly drowned in the sound of the rings and dings of what seemed like thousands of cell phones chiming in discord with the reception of a single inexplicable message. The sound was unbearable; not only was there the physical pain of cochlear penetration by the sharp vibrations, but the common soul of society was also pierced. They had not seen the inevitable damage of the technological revolution, and now it was coming at them like a tsunami that had originated in the dark depths of the ocean. It could have been spotted earlier, tracked until it hit land, but it had slipped under the radar, a silent killer slicing through the sea of troubles. The citizens charged away from the turmoil as fast as their human legs could take them, hands pressed desperately against shell-like ears, but it was too late.
There was nothing they could do to stop the leviathan ocean.
Perhaps it was the dust of humanity that truly prevailed that day, because the sound, though shrill and piercing, went on long enough to sooth the people. They became content with the unexplained display of their own knowledge and power.
Look what we did, the people seemed to be saying. We caused this. And with that, they slept peacefully, phones still ringing.
The song became a death knell, and the people never woke up.

No one knows the content of the message that finally wiped out the human race, but We do.

      Look what We did.

      We caused this.

I saw such a thing in a DMT trip once. It was a black static cloud playing a sound that trapped its listeners.
This writing to me seems metaphorical to the way we trapped ourselves in media, connected more than ever yet somehow disconnected.. On the other hand, in my trip, the cloud was more like a living entity and a sort of demon as well as a place.
I read your description on the abstract way this writing came into existence, so i figure it cant' be accurately interpreted as i have here, but it was very interesting and made me think so i just thought i would share those thoughts. Enjoy, and thanks for sharing!

Wow, what a great line; "They became content with the unexplained display of their own knowledge and power". It's like walking through an airport and seeing so many desperate for private space, totally absorbed with their tech devices... Really like this!
