Description
A new Goddess portrait sketch, now concept of the Goddess Asteria.
• Lore: Asteria or Astrea (Maiden or Virgin of Stars) is one of the Titans, which governs the falling stars (also known as the Goddess of the Starry Night) oracles and night prophecies, including prophetic dreams, reading of the stars (astrology) and necromancy. She represents the dark aspect of the night, while her sister, Leto, represents the cozy aspect of the night.
This nocturnal feature of the sisters was inherited from their mother, Phoebe, the first Goddess of the Moon honored by the Greeks and also regarded as Goddess of the brilliant intellect. Often people confuse this Goddess with “Astreia”, Goddess of Justice and Purity, but they are very different deities.
Together with Perses (the Destroyer), Asteria conceived Hekate, the Goddess of witchcraft. After the fall of the Titans, Asteria was constantly persecuted by Zeus who wanted her, but instead of being more a victim of the sexual invesments of the god, it turned into a quail and threw itself to the sea.
It became an island, originally called Asteria (and it’s said that the island fell from the sky like a star) also called Ortygia (from Greek ortux, meaning "quail"). Even as it turned into an island, Asteria continued to be pursued, but this time by Poseidon, and she began to move constantly by the sea to escape it.
Giving origin to the city then called Asterias, but later called Delos. It was at Delos that her sister Leto gave birth to Artemis and Apollo. She’s probably the same as Brizo, an obscure Deliana Goddess who produces prophetic dreams. Asteria is the Goddess of Falling Stars and the Goddess of the Starry Night too.
