Description It occurred to me that I'd never drawn magic-mode GNU/Linux-tan before, despite open-sourcery being her entire "thing" as an OS-tan.

It started out as a speed painting and shading/highlighting experiment after talking about lighting physics with Samantha-Wright , but got out of hand (as usual). I picked Linux-tan in part because her design incorporates a variety of materials - metal, leather, opaque and semi-transparent fabric - as well as luminous elements (first introduced by C-quel in this pic ). I expanded on that original design, making the forcefield ... halo ... thing larger and putting a three-dimensional take on the gnu horns. I also gave her shoulder armor, because armor always looks badass.

Originally I planned to have her standing on a crumpled Windows flag, but the color scheme probably would have been too ambiguous here. [sigh]

This is a very nice portrayal of her more magical side indeed. Frankly this is the whole reason I actually felt I had to incapacitate her early on in MR~s - her powerlevel is most definitely over 9000 when it comes to magical ability. A well-prepared Linux-tan is not something to be taken lightly.

Linux-tan is certainly a most formidable opponent. MRs could always use a little more Linux-tan magic though.

That being said, it's maybe not the most practical idea, but I DO quite like C-quel's old theory about Linux favoring hand-to-hand fighting and reserving her magic for constructive/creative pursuits. That's what I had in mind while drawing this ... although I'm not sure that ambiguous-glowy-hand-magic gets the point across well, haha.

I had no idea Linux-tan could sparkle so well in the twilight.

Also: this is crazy nuts good.

You have me thinking of a certain neurotic, bookwormish unicorn ex-unicorn with that comment, eheheheh.

Thank you so much! It wouldn't have happened without your help (even if it was a bit inadvertent).

They do have similar haircuts / penchants for magic...

Double yay! I completely forget if I mentioned it in the description or not, but I'd like to do more of these lighting experiments in the future - usually I find them something of a hassle, but this one was fun!

So, I'm already working on a "companion" piece to this picture. I ... may have gotten a bit ahead of myself, since this one seems a lot trickier than the first. Or maybe I'm just suffering through the whole "the first attempt worked out well, so I'm trying to make the second one even better but it's not turning out better and it's discouraging me" thing.

Sorry for the rambling, it's late but I wanted to give an update!

Okay, maybe that's a bit of an overstatement. Contrasting lighting / color schemes are still one heck of a challenge though.

Totally love it!  The way the horns turned out, the glow on the edge of the cape, the pose, all of it.

I think leaving the flag out was a good idea.
