Description Ok...I know that this part of the Prince's Tale form Harry Potter has been done to death, but I really felt compelled to add my interpretation of it.

::SPOILER ALERT::

This is how I envisioned the part of the Prince's Tale where Severus finds Lily's letter to Sirius in Sirius's bedroom. I imagine him taking a moment after finding it to stare off into the past with tear's welling in his eyes. The tears are there...lol! I promise. If you zoom in you can see it.

I'm very happy on how this turned out and I hope you all can enjoy it too!

It is a good likeness of Rickman, but the thing I find really striking about this piece is the wallpaper in background.

Really? I'm glad you like it! I sent it away to a company that enlarged and printed it on a canvas for me. I have it hanging in my living room! It's my favorite piece so far!

Poor guy! I feel really sad now. You did an amazing job showing his anguish though!

Thanks so much! I really wanted to try and capture that sadness. What that character goes through is just amazing and tragic at the same time.

Again, thanks for the compliment!

Then you got that emotion 100%. I know, the author likes to have horrible pasts for her characters.... No offece J.K.R!

LOL! Now that you mention it...she really does. I don't know, I guess that makes them human. But now that I think about it...yes...it is safe to say that just about 90% of the HP characters have had some sort of tragedy. Nice catch Junemanganut!

I know right! It does make them human though so I shouldn't be so upset about that, but oh well. THANKS!!!!!

Gorgeous picture, he looks so sad. The fact that he's not sobbing actually makes it even sadder, he looks so...defeated...
I think it's kinda weird that people are commenting on how he doesn't look like Alan, he looks very Rickmanish to me. Maybe a bit younger though

Thanks so much for the comment!!! I really appreciate it!

LOL! And it is funny...if there is one thing I've learned about art is that two people can look at the same picture and see 2 entirely different things. It's not a bad thing, just proof that things look VERY different in other people's heads.

But I can tell you Alan was my inspiration. And I did purposely smooth out some of the age lines here and there to fit the book Snape more. (Not that I would change Alan in real life one bit. He is perfect as he is)

I'm glad you saw the sadness! I didn't want him bawling in the picture. Though I wanted a feeling of just years of these emotions weighing heavily on him without losing control over himself. He has survived solely on that emotional control. 17 year ago...he would sob...but now...he has just been through too much to let that much emotion out at once. Other than anger of course.

Thanks again for the Fav and the comment. It means a lot to me!

Thanks again for the compliment and the favorite!

This has fantastic detail in it and is really good. However, I agree with what someone else has said about it not being very Alan Rickman-like (which normally gets the 'thumbs down' from me -- AR *IS* Snape!!) But, in this instance, I don't mind at all - it's just so terribly well done!

You know? It is kind of funny that I've had 2 people so far say it doesn't look like Rickman. To be honest, I actually used his face as inspiration, HOWEVER, I took away a lot of the age lines and smoothed out his features to make him look a bit younger to go along the lines of the book. Don't get me wrong...I agree...Rickman IS Snape and I would NEVER want to see anyone in the part but him. I've even had the pleasure and incredible honor of meeting the man in person twice and seen him perform on stage live 3 times. Trust me...I'm a huge Rickman fan! So I'm with you on that Sevvysgirl!

For the painting though, I wanted to see what Rickman would have looked like in the part if he was in his late 30's or so.

I'm really glad you liked it, despite it not being a complete copy of Rickman's face.

I absolutely cannot wait for DH2...I really hope they do The Prince's Tale justice...or there is gonna be a riot of angry Potter fans.

How lovely to receive such a lengthy reply from you - thank you for that! You are so lucky to have actually met the man - and twice at that! I had the privilege of seeing him live on state (well dead at the end - as seems to be his forte!!) last October in the play 'John Gabriel Borkman' in Dublin. He has this amazing 'presence' that I just can't explain (you'll know exactly what I mean) & which I could feel - even from three rows back! I really don't think I could cope with seeing him close up but I most definitely envy you!! Just out of interest, if you don't mind me asking, what did he say to you? There are so many conflicting reports about how he is with fans.

I also have to confess to mostly being a fan of him in his late 30's/early 40's - as you've depicted him here (around the time his career took off with 'Die Hard' etc.) Sounds mean to say that, as we all get old, & I'm certainly not rejecting him now he's older, but I do think he was at his most interesting, shall we say, then!

And, as for your last comment re DH2 - I am already bracing myself for disappointment ... I can't imagine they will possibly do justice to what's in SS fans minds!

(Sorry to prattle on so much - I'm afraid I always do when I meet up with fellow-AR fans!!)

Oh you aren't prattling! I love it! And you'll get another long reply!

I actually saw him in John Gabriel Borkman as well! Only I saw him in NYC. I'm lucky enough to be from the area so I get to see a decent amount of shows....when I can afford it, that is. Broadway tickets are brutal. At any rate...he was amazing. I'm not a big fan of Ibsen's work (I think I just killed one of my old theatre professors with that statement), but I must admit Alan, Fiona Shaw, and Lindsy Duncan were absolutely fantastic. I was riveted the whole time. I'm just glad I didn't have another glass of wine at dinner otherwise I would have become part of the play!

In regards to meeting him, my personal experience was lovely. I went to see him and Lindsey Duncan in Private Lives when it came to NYC. (Hysterical btw) I RARELY bug celebrities and am very conscious about it. After the show I asked the stage door guard if Mr. Rickman hung around or if he takes off immediately. The guard smiled and said "Oh no...he hangs around and is happy to chat with fans. In fact, the other night when it was pouring rain, he stayed until every autograph was signed." I knew then I had to meet him. He came out of the theatre and had a rare smile on his face with all the fans gathered around him shoving pens and papers at him. When he got to me I told him how much I loved the show and was a huge fan of his work. He very shyly replied in that velvet baratone of his, "Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the show." I think I gushed some more, I don't remember I was in shock, And then had the nerve to actually to ask for a picture and he obliged! Big smile and everything...course not bigger than mine. I looked a bit like an escape mental patient, to be honest. But I was feeling pure joy! SO, he was a dream for me. The second time I met him was after Private Lives again. I enjoyed it so much I brought a friend to see the show. She wanted to meet him so we were at the stage door again. Same deal. Very polite and shy.

I didn't bug him after Borkman though. I felt a third time would equal stalking. Creeeeeepy. Didn't want to be that person. It was a good thing too, I had heard for the Borkman performances he didn't hang out for fans mostly because the City was freezing and he really had a bad cold. Couldn't blame him for bolting to be honest. I've been there...

So, breath easy...he is a charming man. Extremely shy, pleasant, and has a good sense of humor. Fans were cracking jokes and making him laugh like mad. It was cool. Not at all what you'd expect. So next time you see him on stage go chat with the stage door guard and see if he is up to meeting fans. Then get your pen ready.

Haha! I don't think I'll ever have the nerve to do what you've done! However, I did WRITE to him after seeing him in Dublin (I actually explained to him that I'd got to see him 'against all the odds' - I suffer from very bad health, which greatly restricts me, & that, coupled with several other things, meant I almost didn't make it to the airport to fly from Kent UK, where I live, to Dublin, Ireland. Then, when we finally got there late at night, we discovered our hotel room had been flooded & my hubby & I had been booked into a dump of a B&B elsewhere! I don't know why I told him all that; certainly not for the sympathy vote - I guess I just wanted him to know how much he means to me & that nothing was going to stop me seeing him on that occasion!!)

Anyway, it must have worked, as he quite speedily sent me his autograph & best wishes in the return SAE I sent. (Even adding extra postage! Though I can't imagine he personally queued up in Dublin Post Office for the stamp; but I love that image!!)

So thank you for sharing your experience. Any chance of posting the pics of you & he on here - I'd love to see them! (You can always contact me separately through this site if you want - I think you can do that ... I certainly know you can send a 'note' which I think is private & I can give you my direct e-mail; but only if you want -- no pressure!)

BTW: I envy you being from the NYC area & being able to see shows like that ... AR rarely does anything in London (or indeed the UK really), despite living here.

Wow! Your trip sounds a lot like my vacations. I'm glad you got to see him though. His live performances are definitely worth it.

Absolutely I can send you the pictures.

I'll e-mail them to you. One I have framed the other snap shots of him laughing are in a box. (I just moved recently). But I'm pretty sure I know which one. Send me a private e-mail via deviant art with your e-mail address and I'll e-mail them to you either tomorrow or Saturday. I'll send whatever I have.

Thanks so much! Most of the time I get these ideas in my head of what I want something to look like and they rarely turn out the way that I want them to. This was a rare exception and I'm very happy it turned out almost exactly they way I saw it in my head. I'm glad you like too! Thanks for the compliment!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it! The poster was fun. I was thinking.."Hmmmm....what kind of poster would Sirius put up in his bedroom to PO his parents? Yup....Muscle car and the half naked muggle to sit on the hood of it. That would do it."

Thanks for the compliment!

Thanks!! I know in the book Sirius attached the posters with a permanent stick spell to annoy his family but I imagined since his death the magic would start to wear off slowly. Not sure if that is what JK would have had but I figured she wouldn't mind.

Thanks so much for the compliment! I really appreciate it.
