i know that's water but the mirror makes it look like mercury!

I placed a mirror in the sink and ran some water over it and added some colour. The I ran the tap to drip. I just took photos trying to time it when the drop hit the water on the mirror. It helps either if there is sufficient natural light or use a lamp (taking care not to get it wet). Try it with and without the flash. Try to set the camera to a fast shutter speed and try different apertures to see what works.
