Description I decided it was time to re-draw one of my old favorites:
I chose this painting because I had put my all into it, all of my effort and knowledge. This painting had a lot of meaning for me at the time and still does, and I was very glad to draw it again! I feel I have improved drastically since January 2016 (when this was first drawn), and this exercise helped me to realize that. We are all constantly improving and we all start somewhere. I'm excited about the year ahead and what improvement it will bring! Just remember, if you love what you do, don't ever give up! Keep going no matter how discouraging it can be....just remember we all start somewhere and that the only way to improve is to keep going! ❤️

Alright, so lets start with the overall image! I find this piece somewhat spiritual, with the bright lights from the floating candles shining against her darkly toned hair it gives off a rather calm and solemn mood.

This pieces reminds me an awful lot of the Artist Destiny Blue, and when looking back at your old piece to try and gain some more background to it, I was really happy to see that it was orginally entered into one of her contests. I think this is amazing because clearly you can see her influence in your piece and it's really refreshing to know those elements have remained in your brand new version of this. Furthermore, you can tell how much you have improved. I think it's mostly with the line work and this piece is certainly more impacting then your old version.

What I gain from the title and imagery of this piece is that this girl has been through some hard times and that on the inside she may be burning up inside, but her heart is still pure and is burning as bright as ever.
There's no way of extinguishing her strong feelings and so as the candles melt so do her issues.

Now for the technique, style of the drawing and the imagery in general. I am not going to criticise the art style, my guess is that the exaggerated proportions is just your style and to be honest, I find that rather lovely. It makes you stand out as an artist from the rest of the pieces you can find on this website, and in fact art in general. That's why I find it hard and rather annoying to judge and critique an artists style, but I will cover a few formal elements within this piece and critique based on them.

Starting of with spacing. I believe spacing is very impotant in an image, and with this piece specifically due to the floating candles and lighting. This piece doesn't feel overcrowded to me with the candles, but I think it be nice to have seen more contrast with dark and light areas within this piece. For example, the candles will emit light. But here and there where there's no candles, they should be patches of darkness to contrast with the light. I know they are a few, and it's great that they fade out and aren't entirely black. But i think there is more spaces in which they should be that.
Next shape and Pattern. The circular motion and spirals keep the piece a round-look. Your eyes always follow in this same motion and never seem to stray from that which is rather uplifting and relaxing. The swirls on the cheeks and neck seem to create a 3-D element to the piece, giving the face volume. I find those little aspects rather clever.
and lastly i'll cover texture and marks. Now I think this is the part that needs improving most on. You're blending of colours is great, but it doesn't bring forward a texture. I feel that this image is a little flat, (aside from the swirls on the cheek and neck) but you can see the colours being mashed and faded in together, it doesn't seem to move forward the piece and make it feel real in a way. Now that is probably, falling back to the style of the work element. So i shall leave it to just that.

Overall, I believe this is a piece you should be really proud of, you have improved incredibly from you last piece! That itself is an amazing achievement, as well as being able to convey a story, mood and emotions within your piece too.
However, there is always room for improvement, I can't wait to see how much your work further develops within the future. It is certainly something you should keep up, strive to improve and better yourself with each and every piece you make!

For this piece, I think it overall looks really good.
I really love the colors chosen and the way it was colored.
The lineart looks smooth and has good variation.
While it is a MAJOR improvement from the old one, I still think there could be some changes in the anatomy (like the neck length and ears) but it's nothing too glaring to ruin the overall feel of the drawing.
I love the vision here... It's very warm and you can feel the subtle wind. The glowing heart is a really cool feature and I love the clothes you added (they're airy and minimal but cute).

In short, I would say keep doing what you are doing and practice and references never hurt anybody (it helped me a LOT).
