Description

Felt like doing another drawing of APW characters, returning to Greta Meissener, a quiet and shy German Pyroraptor who works as secretary to one Doctor Hugo Rosenblatt, a Jewish physicist involved in the secretive Uranverein project. Specifically, it's her and four other young ladies around her age at the Dummersee in Hanover in the summer of 1943, taking a break from secretary work and constant worry about Communard bombers in the cities and big towns. Specifically, they are Ingrid Vetter, a Liliensternus who works for a manager in the Hanberg AG publicly-owned mining company and who is a closet lesbian (not even her friends know of this); Else von Fletzingen, a Europasaurus hailing from Wasserburg am Inn in Bavaria, she is the oldest and tallest member of their group, as well as the only noble wosar; Dorothea Prudhomme, an Archaeopteryx who is the descendant of French Huguenots who formerly lived in Frankfurt-am-Oder before moving to Berlin in order to pursue better career opportunities (she currently works in the Prussian Department of Finance); and Zofia Nowak, a Polish Ajkaceratops who lives in Stettin and is the most rebellious of the five, always eager to defy the conservative Catholic life she grew up in. While her friends are just trying to relax and get their minds off of their stressful lives (as well as the hanging Sword of Damocles that is the war), Greta cannot shake the guilt she has about her attempts to date her old flame Ulrich, as well as nagging questions whether he would truly love her and if Adeck wouldn't perish in a horrible accident as she truly feared. If anything, being away from the two sars she cared about most stressed her more and she secretly yearned to return to Gottingen so she could see them again. Hence, why she isn't in the mood to join her friends in swimming in the lake, instead just being content with reading, feeling too anxious to try to have any fun with the other girls.

This took a bit to draw, both because I had to get the heads, bodies, poses, and swimsuits right, but also because I kept getting distracted by other stuff: other ideas for drawing and writing, Tumblr, fumbling through DeviantArt submissions, Discord, sluggish browser, the driving urge to play Metro Exodus, the constant eating-out we were doing over weekend when my paternal grandfather was joining us for Father's Day, and just how terrible our internet connection has become this month. I didn't feel like adding in any people in the background, I just wanted to get this done as soon as possible. I apologize for how wonky some of the coloring looks, as well as poor Greta's anatomy, I just wanted to move on to draw some freaking fighter jets after this.
