Description Event: Leipzig Buchmesse 2011
Location: Leipziger Messe GmbH (Leipzig, Germany)
Date: Saturday 19th ~ Sunday 20st March
Cosplayer (s):
(Me) as Francis Bonnefoy aka Kingdom of France (War of Austrian Succession) [APH]

Photographer:

This is a portrait photo of myself as Francis Bonnefoy, aka Kingdom of France in Wars of Austrian Succession version. The costume is designed by myself using some 18th century costume designs and the character design in Axis Powers Hetalia anime as reference, I gathered the materials and asked my friend Sakuradrop to help me make it.

I absoluely love this costume and the photos taken during the Leipzig Buchmesse 2011 in Germany turned out epic, it was really comfortable having Britain's company on both days (lots of molesting and fun), and it was great to see (Fritz) and (Prussia) again, they are my awesome friends~!!! > w <

Thanks for your appreciation! At the time when I was working on this cosplay, I was interested in 18th century costumes, so I used the original design in Hetalia manga as a reference and added many details. In my impression, young Francis likes wearing beautiful clothes decorated with lots of fancy laces and embroidery~ ^ ^

I bought the hat during a Halloween costume sale when I was in Germany, it was a black tricorne with golden laces, I added a red flower and a huge white feather to make it look more fancy.

I feel so excited when I see your comments, I admire all of your cosplays, and your recent Hijikata-san cosplay is again really awesome~!! I was thinking about cosplaying Okita someday, because my personality in real life is sort of similar to him...Heheh...= w =+ But I would probably put it into my next year's plan, I need to complete Scotland [APH OC] and Kaito [Vocaloid] first~

...Ah, Scotland...*in despair*...I was planning for my Scotland cosplay yesterday, looking through the hair-style of wig and the colour of fabric when I saw the recent photos of a really popular Chinese cosplayer doing Scotland. That must be the first ever Scotland cosplay in China, the general character design is stunning and the make-ups were absolutely awesome. That suddenly made me really depressed and I don't have much confidence now...OTZL

belphy In reply to Alassa [2011-03-21 21:05:22 +0000 UTC]

I am really concerned about the details, to make things as delicate as possible, it's just my way of doing things. And I like Baroque/Rococo style very much, I guess you can figure it out just by looking at this costume, might be sort of over-decorated~? But I love those laces and golden embroidered-patterns, the costume wouldn't look so special without them~ > w
And thanks for your compliment, dear~

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alassa In reply to belphy [2011-03-21 21:17:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I see. It's the best way of doing things. Over-decorated? Well, that's what is Baroque/Rococo all about. And the costume really looks like if you'd just borrowed it from that age. It's so ... loyal to the cultural movement. And the golden patterns? Wonderful!

No problem, honey! <3

belphy In reply to Alassa [2011-03-21 21:47:14 +0000 UTC]

I love clothing designs from 15th to 18th century, they look so elegant and much than those modern fashion designs which tend to twist the traditional principles of the aesthetics, I don't like the style of costumes LadyGaga wears... It's just like...Oh my God, I wish I was born in the 18th century, that would be an ideal period for me to live, and I prefer realistic paintings rather than abstact ones.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alassa In reply to belphy [2011-03-22 18:27:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I totally understand. They really look elegant. I can't say I don't like some of "modern" clothing, but well, I like just the usual things you see everyday or some of the anime-ish designs. I mean I don't watch the newest fashion shows and exhibitions, it just seems weird to me. =/ Not interested in it. I have to admit that I do listen to Gaga (please, don't beat me, people already bash me enough for that -_-; ), I like the way she's original opposite (? I'm sorry, not sure about this 'phrase') the mainstream, but I can't say I love all of her designs/costumes. It's just... well. Weird. I like a very few designs by her. Very, very few (two maybe? XD).
18th century must have been amazing period. Really. <3
However, I would love to live in a period, when nobody actually cares what do you wear. I mean, you could wear whatever you want and people wouldn't look at you like you was a freak. It really annoys me that you can't go outside wearing something you like just because you look different. People would automatically slander you (Yeah, I live in a small town, where 'anyone can see into the other's plate'). I'm really scared of intolerant people, but thinking there could ever be chance to be just yourself is utopian. Anyway, there are just too many styles I love, so I can't really choose which era is my favourite. And I've got the same opinion about art as you do. Realistic paintings amuse me better than abstract. I'm sorry, I'm really talkative and my English is in a bad mood today. I hope I don't bother you too much.

Also a stupid question. Are you coming to Spring Hetalia meet in Prague this weekend? And if so, are you going to cosplay Francis? <3
