Idle musing from last night to scrap later: I see a jillion combos of griffons on the internets and the occasional traditional cockatrice, yet the ol' owlbear of D&D fame seems to have disappeared. The most recent crop of them is in WoW, I hear.So, I was just missing one of my favorite monsters and playing species swap with a polar bear and an arctic owl. I like the little guy waiting for a seal by the airhole. A whole seal must beat vole anyday.

No, actually the oldschool D&D owlbears from the Monster Manual were more like an eagle+bear, which always annoyed me. NOW I've noticed they look a lot more like owls... but people still don't vary them much from there. n_n;;

Huh. Looks more like a gryphon head, to me. The ears and eyes make it look not-so-owlish. Sad.

Yep, eagles. But everquest [link] and WoW [link] do seem to have improved upon them since then, though the WoW ones still has that eagley beak.
...I still want to try out a tribaled South American spectacled owlbear next.

I'd never heard of an owl/bear combination... but it's surprisingly adorable. Even more so because of the way you've rendered it.
