Leia looked at herself in the full length mirror placed at the end of the chamber. She straightened her necklace, brushed a little fluff of the shoulder of her gown and repsoitioned her belt slightly. The day had finally arrived. The day she would ascend to formal service as an adult member of the Royal Family of Alderaan.

Things would change, maybe not immediately but they would, she would see to that. She would argue with every fibre in her body for less imperial representaion on Alderaan, thats for sure. But she would also modernise the way the Royal Council operated. A bigger voice for the everday citizen and less process and proceedures that were the way they were simply becuase thats the way they had always been.
As she moved her gaze down towards the bottom of the gown she caught site of her bare feet pertruding out from the delecate silk train.

And that will go first she smiled. The centuries old tradition that female members of the Royal family could not wear shoes whilst on official duty. That had never been explained to her, and she hated it.

Just then her father entered the room.

"You look beautiful. I cannot believe this day has come so soon.

"How do you feel?" he continued.

"A liitle nervous", Leia replied, "but nothing I cant handle" she smiled.

"Mind you Id feel better if I could put some shoes on, It looks freezing out there" she said as she nedded to the light covering of snow where the finishing touches were being applied to the ceremony.

"How many times have we been through this? Bail smiled wearily. Sometimes you just have to show a little respect and accept things as they are. There are far bigger issues to take up our time.

Besides, youre not the only one" he said as Leias mother emerges through the door, her own bare feet brusing the hem of her ceremonial gown.

"Oh yes thats right, there are fourteen of us on that alter later on, and another two besides me get to honour our traditions of frozen feet whilst you men get to stand there in your big leather boots. Who exactly thought that one up?

"What wrong?" asked Leias mother

"Cant you guess? replied Bail
