This image was a simple exercise of lighting and mood. It was made in Photoshop. I wanted it to look cold so I went for a cool blue monochrome tone.Related content

Hey thanks! Nothing fancy here, just a basic brush in Photoshop. Started with a black background and painted the lit areas with blue tones. I had a picture reference too. Let me know if you try it. Enjoy!

Im trying it on a picture of a person, so all I do is just paint the lit area blue tones?

Yup, just start with a dark background (doesn't have to be black) and add the light. You can try different tones as well, but keeping it monochromatic is probably what gives it this eery look. Or you could try something edgy like starting with a dark red-brown BG and paint with the light with blues.

Oh thanks! He actually is my character that I created years ago, but go ahead if you wanna use it as a reference! It's funny to see how people really love this one. I think it's a proof of how good lighting and textures can turn something as simple as a human face into something much more interesting.

It looks absolutely gorgeous. The feeling of cold is definitely palpable. He reminds me of David Wenam. Was this based off of anybody?
