A Chameleon I am

A poem by "Angels Are Near"

I wear this robe of Fear
soaked with morning dew
like the rose in the garden I planted
to remind me of all I wanted to forget I knew

I wear this mask of Troubles
all across my face
when I awake in the morning
knowing all I must embrace

I wear this dress of Denial
As I walk outside the door
my smile hides it’s shimmer
the smile I borrow from a much higher Force

I wear this medal of Honor
many choose to think tells a tale
of a daughter dressed as a knight in shining armor
rescuing her father from a fatal disease

I am merely a chameleon changing color
for all to see as I watch him fade away
with this disease that only offers suffering
and through mine eyes it can only be seen

If there was something I could wear
to change his fate
I would wear a necklace of feathers
with wings attached at my back

I would wear a long white gown and wave a magic wand to deliver all his pain to another place
so very far away...

But I am no Angel or Fairy full of miracles or spells
just a daughter trying to make it better still
Smile and bear it as they say and enjoy the time you are given...For most miss the reality that there isn’t a season for joy when you’re living in the midst of someone you love and this illness

I shall remain a chameleon changing color for all to see as I watch him battle this dreadful disease that only offers more suffering and through mine eyes it can only be seen...
