This painting may be an abstract one of a fern, but the type of plant is still made clear.
What I like about this painting is the extent to which the artist has cropped the plant- they could have simply just chosen to paint the whole tree or branch, but instead has chosen to focus on a section of the branch, therefore making this painting more pleasing to look at.
The branches are painted so that it looks like an out-of-focus photo, which is a very nice effect here. The branches appear to blend in with the background, as well as really pop out in some places.
The colours of this photo suggest spring or fall, but the white circles, which remind me of bokeh found in photos, suggest winter. The way the white of the painting is blurred looks like fog, and the branches appear to emerge out of it.
I think this is a really beautiful work, it looks like a photo without being overly realistic. Nice work.

thanks for you critique.you have been very perceptive in pulling apart the different aspects of it while still having a great feel for the overall impact.
i am especially happy that the blurred photo and bokeh aspects are coming across well enough for you to notice cos thats what i am going for in these pieces.
thanks again.
