Description A Valley Quail, or California Quail. These are ground birds that flock together in small groups. Males (as shown above) and females with far less color.

I spotted a group of them running out of the mountains into a ranch garden. Theyare VERY quick on their feet and skittish. But I got a few shots when they were not expecting me to show be where they were going.

This fellow was surprised on a fences with his mate, and he paused long enough for her to escape the evil camera man, before he turned tail and run off too.

A bird I have always wanted to capture in a photo, and I was very happy to finally do it.

they are all over Mt. Diablo in California, but VERY shy birds that hide most of the time. and take off running quickly when they see you coming.

This bird is so beautiful that it almost looks impossible to exist
I have seen many photos of quails before and also tv-documentations with them, but this photo is very nice and makes it possible to really look at and admire this bird.

And a beautiful capture too! I got a photo of one sitting on a fence post with a No Hunting sign tacked onto it once - but nothing near this good of quality. Great catch
