Description    Most people are forcentent enough to never have to see their inner most self. I however did not have that luck. Instead I have to live everyday on the run thinking of the days of the past in the land of my youth.
It was fall when it all happened. The leaves were falling down one by one as they covered the ground with their bright colors, but would not last as they would start to decay into nothing. There was a slight chill in the air so I took my jacket on my daily walk.
I always loved the beauty of nature. The one thing I was really good at in this world was escaping from the people in it. Today however I was not alone when I entered those woods. William had come with me.
William had always wondered what I did in the woods and he picked to day to join me and find out. He was a smart enough person so I didn't dislike him, but he was young, just like I was young. We had no idea the risks we took while we were in those woods.
We fallowed the trail down to the creek. Laying next to the river bed was the body of a deer. It wasn't unusual to see bodies so close to winter. Predators were on the hunt for the last bit of meat before it all disappeared for the winter. What stuck me as odd was the state of the body. It was all torn to pieces, but most of it was just left behind.
So what would go through so much effort just to not eat something. I wanted to stay and study the body, but William urged me to leave. Without an other word we left.
William might have been a little squeamish around bodies, but I wasn't. By now I had seen enough bodies that I wasn't unnerved by them. If anything I marveled at the state of the body after death. A lot of things can be learned about something by just mere observation. However the dead body also served as a reminder that everyday is a fight for survival. However it is only now that I truly know that.
Brushing off our earlier encounter we went to my little spot in the woods. It was a hill that over looked the trial down below. A few trees covered the ground and offered shade to all those who stopped there. The spot also offered a good look out since it was so high. There was little chance of us mission someone coming up.
I remember when I first found this place. It was filled of metal that seemed to have been dumped here by some inconsiderate people. I cleared out the area and now I use it for the view. Some time I would just look around at all the beauty and sometimes I would search areas where I had seen animals before to try and study them.
On this particular day I saw a dark blur. It looked small so I picked up my notebook and went in the direction I had seen it go. William thought it was silly of me, but when I showed him what I had recored in this book he changed his mind.
Over the last year or so I have kept track of every animal I have gone after. For each one I write a description and maybe a drawing. Occasional I would keep markers on their activities. I'd also write down the conditions that they lived in or the food that they consumed. SO that's what I did that this sight.
His borrow wasn't hard to find, but it was very strange. His foot prints were larger then I had guessed, but he also seemed to be putting too much pressure on each foot. The paces around the den looked to be too long to be a four legged animal, so I concluded that he mush be able to walk on two legs. He also seemed to be keeping trophies of sorts.
He had a flat area were multiple flat triangular bones sat. They were all shoulder blades, I think. William was a little freaked out by this and I was amazed I never found this before. He also seemed ti shed a lot, since there were many short black airs all around, most being in a pile. There was one last thing in the den, but I didn't recognize it. There were these strips of translucent organic material that stretched slightly before ripping apart.
After taking down every detail from condition, that were dry, to the sleeping arrangements, which looked to be all the fur, we started to leave. William was a little put off, but I was still wondering where the animal was. I really wanted to know what this thing was.
I found out as we went to the entrance of its layer. Standing just a few feel off was a large hairy animal which stood on its hind legs. His structure reminded me of a human, but he reminded me of a wolf. He was much large that I had remembered. He growled at us and William went to run, but I help him back.
However this did not stop the animal's attack. He leaped forward, pushing William out of the way and pulled me to the ground. I've never experienced such fear in my life, but I readied my self to show no fear. So when it went to attack I had built up the courage to yell, "Stop!" in the hopes that it would confuse it.
While it worked it didn't really stop it. Instead it set its claw on my shoulder and dug into my skin. I cringed as a burning pain rushed out. I had half expected him to kill me, but for some reason he just looked at me as if he was trying to figure me out.
In this time I was able to examen him too. His chest heaved hard at first, but started to settle as he calmed. Unlike I had believed his coat was actually made up of many dark colors that when combined formed a black color. His mouth, which was open slightly, had many sharp teeth, like those of a wolf. His ears were pined back at first, but started to lift and somehow I knew that he meant me no harm. Lastly I noticed that his eyes seemed bigger. Like if your eyeballs were closer to the surface of your face.
He was a magnificent animal and I wished to study him closer when William thought it was smart to try and bash him over the head with a rock he picked up. However he heard him and saw him coming at him.
With one hand he stopped the large rock and with the other he sliced into William's midsection. When they both let go of the stone it fell on the animal's foot. He howled out in pain and ran from us. I didn't know who to feel sorry for; the animal or William.
Seizing the moment I got up and grabbed William. He was starting to bleed badly as we got out of the woods. We were only a few houses away from my house, but I was unsure if we would make it. My injury didn't hurt too much, but I bet William was in great pain. He felt like if he walked the wrong way he would just spill out. I assured him that he wouldn't though.
We arrived at the house with William still awake, to my amazement. As soon as we entered my mother addressed us. She was cleaning, so she didn't look at us, but when I told her that William was hurt she turned around. Laying in my arms was William, who was now on the floor; a bloody mess who was barely conscious.
Mother panicked. She checked him, but didn't move him and then went for the phone to call the ambulance. She didn't have time to ask me what happened, she just franticly tried to tell them what the injury was and where we were.
Soon the ambulance arrived. They picked up William on a stretcher and carried him inside of their car. I road with them to to the hospital to keep William company, when they asked me what had happened I reminded silent.
