Man or Mouse? (Science-Fiction/Horror) 1956

Shy husband, Chris, falls victim to his unfaithful wife and her lover’s plot to remove him from their lives, while also claiming his life insurance. The greedy duo devise the perfect crime by utilizing radioactive goo to transform poor Chris into a 4” tall mouse girl. Now underfoot and vulnerable, Chris must survive not only the sadistic duo’s torment, but also return to his old body before the transformation becomes permanent. He finds it easier said than done though, when the world around him is filled with giants who view the statuesque mousegirl as either vermin or plaything. Running time: 96 minutes. B/W.

Review: More bizarre than many of the “radiation changes protagonist into something” flicks of the era. “Man or Mouse” has the typical preposterous plot and laughable acting you’d expect of the genre, all while boasting better than usual special effects. The movie created a bit of scandal due to its thinly obscured sexual encounters. In particular, the titular hero finds himself... herself(?) in the clutches of a leering neighbor at one point in the film that leaves little to the imagination. Despite its many, many flaws, “Man or Mouse” moves along at a brisk pace, and is good campy fun. Somewhat interesting, but not really fact: The former Miss Wyoming, Delilah Barnes, makes her one and only film appearance as the Mouse Girl.
