A crack of thunder rumbled across the sky. Apple Crisp, better known as Crispie, tucked in her arms to retain as much heat as possible. Maybe she hadn't prepared for her trip too Manehattan as throroughly as she ought to have. With only a t-shirt and overalls, Crispie stood no chance against the brewing storm

Plop. Plop. Plop.

The first raindrops began to fall. Crispie shivered, noticing the delicate goosebumps on her arms. I'll have to find a hotel soon, she thought. She had been planning on staying with her relatives, but they lived too far, and Crispie didn't want to get hypothermia. Luckily, there seemed to be a hotel on the other side of the street. That's where she was headed- if the rush of traffic would stop long enough for her to cross.

As she waited for the light to change, Crispie's gaze wandered to a person standing a few feet away from her. He was young, about her age, and his hair was matted down against his face. Although he held an umbrella in his hands, he was not using it, which Crispie found peculiar.

Her pink eyes met his blue ones. He smiled benignly. "Someone's not dressed for the weather."

The corners of her mouth twitched. "I forgot to check the weather. And you're one to talk." She nodded at the umbrella in his hands. "Why aren't you usuing your umbrella?"

"This thing? I forgot I had it." He opened it and held it over his head. He guestured her over. Although he was a stranger, Crispie would rather be out of the rain. She scurried over to his side. "Going somewhere?"

"Just across the street." Still shivering, Crispie looked towards the hotel.

"That dingy thing?" The guy shuddered. "I can show you somewhere better, if you'd like. I go there all the time."

"I'm not sure if-"

"I know I'm a strange guy you met two seconds ago," the guy interrupted. "I'm just giving you options."

Crispie paused. "Alright. Show me where this better hotel is."

The guy smiled. "Come on, let's go."
