Okay so, I like what you've done with both of theses pieces. Both convey a fantasy feel, I don't know if that's what you're going for, because I also like fantasy landscapes. Left picture, I have no idea what those swirls are, maybe dust devils.
I see that it has depth, but not as well as the right picture. One the left, it feels like something is missing in the background, behind the second hill. Overall all it's really nice, especially when the colors POP out. The right picture is pretty nice. All these colors compliment each other, the yellow sun is the complete opposite to the purple ground on the color wheel. the baby blue POPS as well, because that color is drastically different from one and the other. You have a dark blue to show that there is mountains or rock formations, and that tells us so much. Your lighting is slightly off, but very hard to notice. anyway, nice job and keep on going. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

Working with complementary colors is a very common, and so pratical, way for setting up the image, and it is an important part for compositing.
Picking the colors was done very well so far, they only things i would mention here:
- when working with a two-complementary color scheme (there are also three, and more) you should decide which one is the primary and which the secondary. I personally take the secondary for the most part of my picture and the primary for the focused elements. Watching the left picture i can see the red used on different elements, for the sun it is great as the red is so intense it pulls the view right there. But for the thingies on the ground i would rather use the red mixed with the other color pallete so they're not so intense otherwise they act as too many focus points.
- another important tip: grayscale your image from time to time. Sometime some colors appear to be darker as gray-tone then as color, this is something that your brain will always recognize. So the red on the left image right now feels a bit 'dark' to be used for the sun while the ground with the opposite colors seems to be very 'bright'. You can still use the color pallete but i would play around with the brightness of the colors (HSB - hue, saturation, brightness). For sure this doesn't apply if you wanted to have the image that way.
Just my two cents about, in total a great job and a big step forwardΒ

Awesome, thanks so much! Definitely never thought to have select areas for certain colors.

I love Ahmed Aldoori, been watching his vids for a few months now. I don't know the first thing about painting scenes or colour theory, but these look fantastic to me. I really love the concentrations of yellow light in the second one, gives the rock formations so much shape.
