I need to start watercolors again. Every time I start on one I always get frustrated with it. Do you have any tips?

Hmm, I would recommend starting with a few light colors and making a quick wash background, I think it helps with creativity and fills up the space. Use flat brushes cause that is easier. Do not go over the same area with a brush many times, that will cause bugs among other things. It would be good if you could try some spontaneousΒ drawings! For this art I started with the background and went with the flow to learn some techniques. I hope this helps. Also black is so very transparent.

I never use black in watercolor since it washes the color away (if that makes since) I only use it if I really have to. I mostly use dark blue. ^^

Yes, it does. I guess I should stop using it as much too, I mostly do it out of habit when painting night sky but I think dark blue works just as well. Going to have to try that one of these days.

I know right! It's so tempting to use black because it's an easy way to make really dark areas. With watercolor you have to rely on other colors and layering. ^^'

Yeah, I tape down my watercolor painting down with masking tape to prevent it from warping. And I'll try!

It's so creative
A little bit of northern lights, a little bit of a silhouette. Great concept.
I'm only wondering if it also looks that way inΒ reality. The colorsΒ have a "washed out" look. I assume the colors look much more intense in your actual painting
