If they are canon, why they are together on screen or acting like they were together on screen?
I still ship Fluttermac too, but I am still upset by the fact that fanfiction and fanart will never be adapted as a (separate canon) movie or a series on television and theatres. Because it's not canon and it won't fix anything that was canon.

And don't be. Canon isn't all it's cracked up to be. In fact, fanon is far more interesting.
A ship can't die so long as people still like it. It may lose steam, but it wont die.
Hell, Fluttermac has a new group that's become pretty active. That's a good sign the ship still has fans.
