Ah yes, Batman back when he was still an actual hero who let his past tragedies motivate him to become a better man, instead of using them as a crutch to justify his worst behavior and impulses. I miss this Batman. The arrogant, Frank Miller-instigated creep we've had since 1986 (little more than Lex Luthor in a cape) wore out his welcome within seconds of showing up.

Β

Thanks for bringing back the real Batman, even if it's only in a drawing.

not bad, but having your parents shot in front of you at the age of nine and living in a city filled with serial killers, mad scientists and psychotic mutated freaks does not bring about this kind of personality in any sane and realistic prospective environment. needless to say i prefer the modern DARK knight.
a fun representation, though i suppose

In almost all versions of Batman, he does impossible things like gliding with his cape and fighting criminals using boomerangs and ropes instead of guns. ItΒ΄s enough to make him not realistic, no matter if heΒ΄s represented in a dark or campy way. But I agree with you, the behavior of the Batman from the 60s TV shows was absurdly incoherent for someone who saw his parents being killed. I donΒ΄t remember seeing they mention Bruce WayneΒ΄s parentsΒ΄ deaths in the old TV series and animations. But IΒ΄m not sure, for I havenΒ΄t seen all the episodes. Maybe those versions of the character didnΒ΄t have the tragic past. I like both points of view of the character but I prefer the old school stuff. Just for the nonsense. Also I think that the Brave and the Bold animation series had a good balance between his light and dark points of view.

to be fair, fictional elements do tend to make things more interesting, but i agree. and funny you should mention it. in the silver age, they seemed to somewhat ignore bruce's parents' deaths. not completely, but for the most part. made him more fun, because most folks still enjoyed a forced happy face. it was what made people happy, so there's nothing wrong with that. but i like how his character has adapted over the years. the silver age did have it's share of tragedy though, like jason todd's death. most were so surprised at how dark it was, some actually stopped reading the comics

For sure! There are other ways to make him look great in films different of the depressive, violent and pseudo-realistic point of view of.

Adam West Batman, from an era when Batman was high!!!

Is a shame that West dont like it the Tim Burton Batman, the version that everyone follows now, dark and angst.

It's sad that he doesn't like the dark version of batman. But I think it's fair. He played the role of a much more colorful and funny version of the character, which was very faithful to the comics at that time. I like both points of view on the character, but the old school batman is still my favourite.

Well, when I was a kid I see the episodes of the old batman, and you are right there colorful and funny, and yes it was very faithful to the enemys of batman, but I think that Jack Nicholson was a better Joker compared with the Joker of the old Batman.

And Michelle Pfeiffer was much better catwoman compared with the actress of the old batman, I dont known how good would be Anne Hathaway as catwoman in the Batman of Christopher Nolan.

BezerroBizarro In reply to Keyser94 [2012-07-16 02:32:52 +0000 UTC]

It's a matter of opinion. I think that Cesar Romero played a Joker very similar to the character of the old comics, and that was exactly what they were looking for. Nicholson got a much darker and macabre version of the character, which was also fantastic and fitted perfectly the atmosphere of Burton's movie. I think both versions were great, but I still prefer the old school Batman's universe.
About Catwoman, I think the best of all was Tori Black (if you don't know her, try Google hehe!)

I miss the times when comics were more fun and less drama. Fortunately it's still possible to buy them in comics shops for a fair price, except for some extremely rare stuff.

How sad... There are 2 comics shops in my city. They're the only places where we can find old comics in good conditions. There are also newsstands downtown that sell and exchange old magazines, but they're always ripped and wrinkled.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) depending on how you look at it, there are many fine web comics. I sometimes feel that web comics are beginning to fill that indie comic niche in my comics collection.

I do miss the weekend junket to the comic store and browsing all the stuff, shooting the breeze with the owner. It was more of an experience back then!

But again, with web comics, even I can get involved in cartooning and that's a plus for me. >_<

I guess we've got to give up something to get something! ^_^;
