In american SFII version, this guy is called M. Bison, but his name in the original version is Vega. In the japanese game, Bison is the boxer and Balrog is the spanish fighter with claws. This confusion of names shouldnΒ΄t happen, it lets us players a lil... confused heheeh!

I don't get the deal with rearranging the names for the US version either, though I think the names seem a bit more fitting moved. I wonder what the "M" in M. Bison stood for?

"M" in M. Bison is for "Mike". This is the name of the boxer in the japanese version. Some say that Mike Bison is a parody of Mike Tyson hehe! ThereΒ΄s a boxer in SF 1 called Mike. His clothes are different of the boxer of SFII, but i think heΒ΄s the same character.

That makes sense, because I always thought that Balrog looked like Mike Tyson. Some think of the US M. Bison as Major Bison. What the heck would he be a major of? He's the leader of an underground terrorist group.

Balrog (in the american version) was originaly named M. Bison to be a parody of Mike Tyson, but, for that same matter, when it arrived to america, the changed it so this guy from veing Vega, turned into Major Bison. Wierd thing, maybe they thought Tyson wouldn't stand the joke.
