How to use Volumetric Lights in Mandelbulb3D? =>
Go into the coloring tab of the main window and click on the "Dyn fog on it" button: it will transform into volumetric light. In the text box next to it, you put the number of the light source you want to use for volumetric (by default it's the 1st one) then you can render the image. If the light direction is not interesting, you can change it using the sliders in the Global Light tab of the light which is selected (make sure that the light in On, and also note that volumetric lighting also works with Positional light, as in the latest image by Kraftwerk). Then you can modify the intensity of the light by playing with the d.Fog sliders in the Lighting window. As a side note, if you use Hard shadows, don't forget to try to tick the "Softer HS" box in the post process window, and try to increase the Radius value. It will blur hard shadow edges for more realistic renders. Hope this helps.

I think this piece is breathtaking! The color of the light is very interesting and really draws the eye around the structure of the building and into all the nooks and crannies. The volumetric light adds so much depth to this scene and really brings it to life.

I have just one thing that seems off and that is the ground. It looks like just a random quick texture. It almost looks as though the structure is sitting on some sort of fabric but the texture of that fabric is flat so, I'm not sure what you were going for here. It seems odd and out of place with the exquisite detail in the rest of the piece.

It is simply amazing and I love it!

Holy smokes! This is nothing short of freaking amazing. Seriously, how long did this take?! The detail is remarkable, like grade A, remarkable. It's absolutely stunning and very easy on the eyes. I have been staring at this for nearly 15 minutes and still am stunned by all the detail this piece has. I love the color scheme too, the orange-yellow from the sun rays, and the green/aqua color straight ahead. It's a wonderful piece you have made. My only critique is something along the lines of what someone else said, the flooring sort of looks like a rug pattern, but it really doesn't affect the image what so ever, I guess it's more of a personal thing when looking at the flooring. Again, brilliant work, really!

This is purely breath-taking!

The texturing and detail of the structure helps to show you've put a great deal of time and effort into creating this image.

The emphasis of the vertical forms in the structure help to create a sense of "vastness" to me. I can almost imagine myself standing at the foot of the building at looking up towards the vaulted cieling, plus walking straight through the interior.

The way the light intensifies at the far end in the distance also helps to give the rendering some "depth".

My only main quibble is the pattern on the ground. It looks too much like the pattern on a rug. Is this supposed to be a ruin situated somewhere in a desert? Apart from the pattern on the ground, that's the impression I'm getting.

It don't mind the floor pattern personally. The lines aid the perspective and depth. I think it would be slightly improved viewers angle was a touch higher - as it kind of feels to me as though I'm at bugs-eye level.

By the way, this is also a reason why I do not include characters in my landscapes and sceneries: I like to leave that kind of confusion about the scale

bib993 In reply to vikette [2013-04-10 15:59:26 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, scale is always a problem with fractals. You say bugs-eye level, but we could argue that the monument is so huge (like kilometers high) that actually it's seen from a giant's perspective Thanks for the good observation anyway
