One thing leads to another. This is about the question of how one can identify dogs among the various zoomorphic patterns, since there's quite a variety and they're not very lifelike...So here's a little collection of designs I found.
Unfortunately, in my opinion the result is not very conclusive; though all dogs, I wouldn't bet anything to not confuse them with wolves, or any other quadruped, for that matter, since some of them rather look like a doe, or even a capricorn. Not to complicate things any further, they're all insular style, otherwise there would be an even broader range of forms.

I heard or read somewhere (can't remember which) that the wildlife, humans and the plants drawn in simple manner because God created them and if the monks were to draw these things in great detail then it would be challenging God or something like that. So because they weren't divine like God they drew these things like this. I like them they're great and they always will be.

Now that's a really interesting piece of information, and it seems to me a quite plausible theory, too! Thanks for adding this!
(To me this also suggests that by drawing art, you actually create reality - and there would infringe on the divine prerogative of creation... wow.)

Ich stimme dir voll zu, dass es da immernoch eine ziemliche Bandbreite an Variationen gibt. Aber mir fällt auf, dass fast alle (außer drei) eine Linie haben, die die Schnauze von dem Auge trennt. Das sieht ein bisschen so aus als wäre es ein bestimmtes Fell-Muster, dass eine bestimmte Hundeart auszeichnet. Nur kenne ich mich nicht wirklich mit Hunden und Hunderassen aus und weiß daher nicht, ob diese Vermutung überhaupt sinn macht 
Darum kann ich auch nicht wirklich etwas dazu sagen, ob Dackel hartnäckig sind, wie du an anderer Stelle erwähnt hattest. Ich hatte bloß einmal einen weißen Nintendogs Dackel, aber ich glaube kaum, dass der einen tatsächlichen charaker hatte
Jedenfalls kam mir gerade aber noch die Idee, dass es sein könnte, dass man die Hunde nicht daran erkennt, was sie an Merkmalen haben, sondern daran was ihnen fehlt. Eine gewagte, doch durchaus mögliche These, wenn Sie mich fragen

Hm, stimmt, auch mal ein guter Ansatz, um darüber nachzudenken! Ich werde einfach weiter die Augen offenhalten...
Hihi, ja, das mit den Dackeln ist wohl etwas, das man nicht als erstes "einbauen" würde : Da war eben dieser viiiiiel größere Hund, und der Dackel, der was gegen ihn hatte, der kläffte, und kläffte, und herumsprang, und kläffte... Bis es dann dem Großen zu blöd wurde und er den Dackel am Genick gepackt hat, ein bisschen geschüttelt und dann weggeschleudert hat, dass der Kleine in hohem Bogen wegflog. Hätte ihm eine Lehre sein sollen/können, war es aber nicht: Sobald er wieder auf die Füße kam, ist er wieder hin und hat weitergekläfft, um sich im Zweifel die nächste Abreibung abzuholen...
Mut? Irrsinn? Schlechtes Gedächtnis? Beratungsresistenz? oder eben: Hartnäckigkeit.

Und dieser Dackel ist wirklich Hartnäckig, oder vielleicht auch ein wenig lebensmüde! Auf jeden Fall eine witzige Geschichte xD
